The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a powerhouse. There's no other way to describe it. They've taken the super hero genre and taken it to another level. Rival studios are now trying to create their own "universes" such as a "DC Batman/Superman" one, a "Spider-Man" one, and a "Fantastic Four/X-Men" one.

Phase 2 just had a killer hit in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) . The Worldwide Gross of the film as of 05/08014 is around $681,030,585 (boxoffice.com). No one expected such a hard nosed, smash mouth, political thriller character study that was Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was a sequel no one expected much from besides the check-in with all the characters following The Avengers we hadn't seen in [Iron Man 3](movie:24391) or [Thor: The Dark World](movie:206462) . For my full thoughts and review on Captain America: The Winter Soldier watch my review right here:

In a couple months Marvel has another potential box office smash on their hands ending phase 2 [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073). Will it favor as well as Cap 2? Or will it become one of the first bombs in the MCU?

Guardians of the Galaxy is a risky film for Marvel. Most of the cast aren't "A-Listers" like Robert Downey Jr. or a Samuel L. Jackson. What the film has going for it is the almost complete unknown. Almost anyone in the world whether a comic book nerd or just a regular joe has heard of Captain America, Iron Man or Hulk. No one really knows anything about the Guardians. That mystery should lead to intrigue and should lead to butts in the theaters. It was an interesting choice indeed for Marvel have Guardians be the final film of phase 2 before [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) . Will we see cameos of the Guardians? Or just some minor/side characters? Only time will tell.

One can only hope Marvel doesn't get nervous like it seems the marketing team behind [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) because they've shown so many clips/teasers/trailers/new footage I swear I've seen 30 minutes of it already! After the August release of Guardians of the Galaxy we have nearly a 9 month wait before the 2nd Avengers.

Now that Phase 2 is wrapping up how did this compare to Phase One? Where will Phase 3 go after [Ant-Man](movie:9048) and [Captain America 3](movie:994409)? Other films that have been mentioned include: Black Widow, Doctor Strange, Black Panther etc. Marvel needs to be careful of over-filling their roster before future Avengers films turn into 3 hours of trying to give every character screen time (which honestly I wouldn't mind). Marvel will need to also introduce us to interesting enough characters like the Guardians so that they can sustain our attention.

There are so many questions on everyone's minds about any new characters getting their own films, what actors will leave, will we get more television series like [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469) or this Agent Carter series? All of these questions are being raised because we are just so eager for more. These questions we have are questions out of genuine intrigue and not questions out of fear like with other Cinematic Universes such as Spider-Man, X-Men/Fantastic Four or DC/Superman/Batman.

If you haven't seen it yet, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is TREMENDOUS go see it. Go see Guardians of the Galaxy when it comes out and let's check back in after that film's release so we can see how Marvel ties up Phase 2 before all of our favorite heroes assemble again.
