Ryan Murphy has revealed new details about the upcoming fourth season of FX’s American Horror Story
American Horror Story season four will revolve around a 1950s Florida freak show. Jessica Lange returning for her final season, plays the German owner who will do anything to save her colleagues within her company of estranged individuals. The consequences of the doomed actress will play an integral role in the climax of the show's latest season.
“It was always a concept that Jessica and I talked about really early on, it was always her favorite one, which I thought was funny. I’ve had many different versions that I’ve run by her. I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season. But look — if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”
That's right, a character named 'Clown Killer'. But does this mean a clown killer, or a clown that kills? Thankfully Murphy has cleared the issue up already stating that it is in fact a scary clown, and in his own words “The most terrifying clown ever!”. It's also great news to hear that Ryan and the cast has returned to a darker theme, much like Asylum which was a fan favourite (but then aren't they all!). Expect also to see other circus/freakshow-esque acts as Murphy has confirmed the addition of a bearded lady, or at least in his words “Yes. Our version of it.”
In related news, Angela Bassett recently spoke to E! Online and shed further light on the series and the main plot line, although she admittedly has no idea who her character will be;
'Well, we know that Jessica Lange plays the manager of one of the U.S.' last remaining freak shows in Jupiter, Fla., who has 'rescued all these different individuals. It's the end of that era, of the freak show, and we'll do anything to keep our business going,' ... 'I don't know if I'll be a Siamese twin or a bearded lady!'"
American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to premiere later this fall!
