Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's writer has been hired to work on the script for Mission: Impossible 5. Relative film newcomer Will Staples is the man with the gig.

According to recent reports, Staples' other writing credits include Need for Speed Rivals, and the upcoming Ben Affleck-written and directed Blood & Treasure.

Meanwhile, continuing a relationship with Tom Cruise that began with Valkyrie and appears only to have strengthened, Jack Reacher's Christopher McQuarrie is taking over directing duties on Mission: Impossible 5.

The only important M:I 5 question which now remains is whether or not Cruise will do that creepy android-run where he chops the air with his hands as he builds up speed... Only time will tell.

Mission: Impossible 5 smashes into theaters December 25, 2015.
