Many fans are already viewing the Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman with suspicion. The casting of Ben Affleck as Batman seemed to split the comic-book community, and even now some die-hard fans are refusing to acknowledge the actor and director in the role. The later casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor didn't help either.
However, what can really make or break the movie, and potentially bring rebellious fans back into the fold, will be the costumes for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Both of the heroes are reportedly getting redesigned threads, and it sounds like we won't have to wait long until we can finally set our eyes on them. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson recently tweeted a enigmatic message that suggested a reveal was imminent. He said:
Costumes in the live-action adaptation of comic-book movies have always been a contentious issue. Film-makers have to walk the tight-rope between appeasing fans of the original comics and also updating the often dated costumes for modern audiences, Luckily, both Batman and Superman are such iconic characters that their suits rarely differ much from their ink-based origins, however, Man of Steel did experience some controversy when it was revealed Supes wouldn't be wearing his briefs over his pants. However, Wonder Woman could potentially have some major changes to her rather revealing and 'implausible' traditional costume.
Of course, in Hollywood terms, 'not long now' could mean anything from tomorrow to a year, so Wilkinson's announcement is hardly accurate. However, rumors are circulating that the big reveal could come at this year's San Diego Comic-Con - especially if Warner Bros. want to head off potential leaks during filming.
UPDATE: He wasn't joking! Today director Zack Snyder Tweeted the first image of Ben Affleck as Batman. Click here to see it!
