This is awwwwwwesome! Emphasis on the awesome!
Supposedly, Chronicle writer Max Landis is working on a script for the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Just please don't use that title). The fellas at Schmoes Know have reported from a inside source that Max Landis is currently writing the script for the reboot! There is additional news! He has allegedly just turned in a draft to the upcoming movie's producers, Jim Miller and Alison Shearmur! If this is true I will be so happy!
I have no clue what's going on at Lionsgate but, I beg of you, just make this a good movie with plenty of action for the fans!My thoughts and maybe a minor rant:
I'm feeling pretty uncertain about this film... As I should. I use to love watching Power Rangers as a kid and I still have a lot of respect for the show, but people need to understand that this movie might have to be drastically changed if brought to the BIG screen. From being a movie about teenagers in spandex with large metal helmets fighting monsters that have sparks coming out of them instead of blood, to a movie that's a bit more appealing to both teens and young adults. I understand children watch the show a lot (and some adult fans still) but bear with me, folks! Because these ideas won't settle well with a lot of you, I can't lie.
For the love of all that is holy the name has to go! Sorry. Maybe Lionsgate could use the name "Power Rangers," but even that doesn't sound appealing to a lot of people. You can have 500 people be excited about this movie but that doesn't mean anything in Hollywood. Your goal is to make a good-quality film while entertaining your audience, but it really comes down to the almighty dollar!
This is money making business and unfortunately these movies can't only be for the hardcore fans. They're for everyone... So with that being said; I would choose a different name. Maybe keep the lightning bolt in the symbol for a little nudge to the original title and nostalgia. And make it known that it is a REBOOT.
Heck to the no! The old suits have to go! No more overly bright colors! It's too plain, and this is 2014! I would love to see the Power Rangers in a suit similar to the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor from Halo.
I encourage the whole crew for this reboot to use their imagination and think outside the box! If they make an exact copy of the last Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie then why another movie in the first place? The whole point of the reboot is not to repeat the same thing from the last film but try something different, something fresh! Look up Halo Spartan armor or ODST armor, you can't tell me if you base some of the designs from them that the Rangers won't look totally sick!
So, new gear, more high-tech suits, and of course badass weapons! Have the animal insignia on their chest plates or their call signs could be the animal name. Add color but have it as a secondary coat outlining the armor. Last but foremost all the Rangers should have their own unique style to their armor like the Spartan image above, something that mimics the individuals personalities and skill-set of each team member.
I LOVE the origin for the Power Rangers already. I would only change a few things about the origin and that's actually saying a lot about origin movie takes! There's so much potential with this franchise! If done right this could be one of Hollywood's biggest SciFi/Superhero/Action/Horror films! Yes, I did say "horror" there are some creepy looking creatures they can use for this film that can be geared toward the bit older audience who still love the characters and idea! Have scenes of the Rangers in space on an "abandoned" engineer ship that's crawling with cannibalistic mutants from Rita Repulsa (Dead Space) or something freaky! But, in all seriousness you can do a lot with this film and I wouldn't keep it just on some Earth or in some factual city! This could be a lot of fun and hopefully the crew working on the film sees that!
Like I said I would keep a similar origin but change it a bit: Instead of having five teens magically teleport to Zordon because they're "spunky." Do something similar to SPARTAN-II Program (another Halo reference, sorry!).
The SPARTAN-II Program, originally known as the ORION Project Generation II, was part of the SPARTAN Program, an effort to produce elite soldiers through mechanical and biological augmentation. The SPARTAN-II program would be the first in the series to meld advanced exoskeleton technology with the soldiers' superior physiques.
The storyline doesn't have to based in our world perhaps the year 3024? Where Earth started a super-soldier program back in 2064 to fight off Rita Repulsa and her army of aliens, monsters and mutants (we can always change her name). Zordon can be a general instead of a giant head in the tank. The program can be called "Ranger-2064" based on the year the program started.
“My SPARTANs are humanity's next step. Our destiny as a species.”
—Catherine Elizabeth Halsey on her SPARTAN's destiny
Imagine it was replaced with Rangers! (Learn more about this program)
I have no clue who would do the score but I think all of these in a Power Rangers movie would be scary, heart-racing, exciting, intense... And certainly EPIC!
Haha, that's all I have to say. I HIGHLY doubt they would use these ideas but it's fun sharing my thoughts on this film because I have always been such a huge fan since I was a kid! I hope this movie succeeds at the box office! I will definitely be seeing it at least once!
