Bad Robot have announced that the first day of principal photography has started on the latest instalment in the Star Wars saga on Twitter.

Director J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot Productions posted a picture of a clapperboard this morning on their official Twitter account with the hashtag :

No details of the shooting location have been given but it's been suggested that filming is underway in Abu Dhabi.

The cast of the untitled seventh episode in the franchise was unveiled in late April with stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow joining original trilogy stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The internet is abuzz with rumours of what roles these respective actors will be playing. Now that filming has started, expect some details in the near future.

Star Wars: Episode VII is out December 18, 2015.
