Unlike its predecessors, The Expendables 3 has received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA.
Sylvester Stallone confirmed the rating during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival.
"We want to reach as many people as possible," Stallone said. "It's very close to an R, believe me, it's right there. But I think we owe it to the next generation. We thought we'd join that club for a while."
So in other words, they want to reach the next generation's wallets.
This may also be due to The Expendables 2 grossing over $85 million domestically which is $18 million less than the the first Expendables which grossed over $103 million domestically.
Maybe a PG-13 rating and the youth will help boost ticket sales.
We all know rated R movies don't perform as well as they use to causing many films to purposely tame their content... although most PG-13 films are just as violent as an R film just without the blood splatter and swearing.
Are you disappointed in the PG-13 rating or is it no big deal to you?
