The names 'Bonnie and Clyde' are synonymous with the dark romance of gun toting gangsters, even to those unfamiliar with the depression era antics of the murderous duo.
Thankfully, Michael Sucsy is directing an adaptation of Jeff Guinn's non-fiction book about the youthful bandits to set the record straight about the pair's infamous crime spree.
So far, the casting of the criminal couple has been pinned down to [Game of Thrones](movie:817617)' 'Mother of Dragons', Emilia Clarke and [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942)'s Nicholas Hoult.
According to Production Bulletin, [Go Down Together](movie:1433454) will paint a much less romanticized picture of the legendary outlaws who were gunned down when they were in their early '20s.
The official synopsis for the book reads;
From the moment they first cut a swathe of crime across 1930s America, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker have been glamorised in print, on screen and in legend. The reality of their brief and catastrophic lives is very different — and far more fascinating. Combining exhaustive research with surprising, newly discovered material, author Jeff Guinn tells the real story of two youngsters from a filthy Dallas slum who fell in love and then willingly traded their lives for a brief interlude of excitement and, more important, fame. Thanks in great part to surviving relatives of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, who provided Guinn with access to never-before-published family documents and photographs, this book reveals the truth behind the myth, told with cinematic sweep and unprecedented insight by a master storyteller
Although Sucsy is not the best known director in Hollywood, his critically acclaimed HBO movie Grey Gardens proved he is more than capable of gritty realism.
Let's hope he can bring the same compassionate human touch to the short and desperate lives of Bonnie and Clyde.
