Some rather massive Star Wars news has just emerged from a land far, far away. Well, Germany to be precise. Information has made its way online which purports to be a release schedule for the entire Disney-led Star Wars movie franchise - including the currently unknown spin-off movies.
Although we're learning more and more about the episodic Star Wars movies, starting, of course, with 2015's [Star Wars: Episode VII](movie:711158), we still know precious little about the proposed spin-off movies that will be released in between the episodes.
Earlier this month, Disney CEO Bog Iger confirmed the new Star Wars universe would receive three spin-offs, but even before this news, the internet was abuzz with possibly storylines. Two of the most persistent and popular choices were a Han Solo and Boba Fett spin-off, and if this new information is to be believed, that's exactly what we're getting - plus an interesting surprise.
German website, Star Wars Union, recently ran a story in which they claimed to receive information from Hasbro event reps. Hasbro holds the license to make Star Wars toy merchandise and so it would make sense for them to be privy to deep insider Star Wars secrets. The SWU state the information gave a run down of the Star Wars release schedule all the way up to 2020. Check it out below:
- 2014: Rebels
- 2015: Episode VII
- 2016: Boba Fett
- 2017: Epiosde VIII
- 2018: Solo
- 2019: Episode IX
- 2020: Red Five
Now, the inclusion of the [Star Wars Rebels](series:965946) animated series is of no surprise, as we've already seen copious amounts of marketing for this property. However, the [Boba Fett Movie](movie:857671), [Han Solo Movie](movie:857667) and, perhaps most interestingly, Red Five movie are still unconfirmed entities. Red Five in particular is a completely new player, as it suggests one spin-off movie could revolve around a group of X-Wing pilots.
The phrase 'Red Five' has been used a few times in the Star Wars saga as a call-sign referring to different starfighter pilots of the Red Squadron, most notably by Luke Skywalker during the Battle of Yavin and by Anakin during the Clone Wars. Could this spin-off concentrate on either of these characters, or perhaps even a new pilot (it's true that plenty of characters have used the call-sign)? Can we expect to perhaps see a true Star Wars war movie? Or perhaps even Top Gun in space?
Of course, as usual, none of this information has received official confirmation from anyone remotely associated with Mickey Mouse, so it could be viewed skeptically. Star Wars is one of the world's biggest movie franchises, and I wouldn't put it beyond some fans to spread disinformation for the sheer hell of it. However, it's worth noting some websites were forced to take down the information, which suggests if nothing else, Disney do not want it out there.
