"Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas... There was an age undreamed of. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet.”

That quote was from none other than Robert E. Howard- The guy who created Conan The Barbarian.

The John Milius movie from 1982 had much of this tonality to it. The musical Score, composed by Basil Poledouris was some of the most EPIC sounding music to ever grace film. The narration by Japanese actor Mako (playing Akiro the Wizard) was perfect. When he begins reciting the Prelude above...It's ON!

The upcoming film King Conan (The Legend of Conan) hopes to re-capture some of that from the original 1982 film. The 1984 sequel, Conan the Destroyer was too comedic and un-EPIC. They tried to make a kid friendly PG film (no nudity) and gave Conan a comedic side kick, Malek. It was just not a worthy successor.

The remake of Conan the Barbarian in 2011 was a flop. It was poorly written and relied to much on CGI. I like Jason Mamoa (thought he was great in Game of Thrones) but people remember Arnold as Conan. He is the guy who put Conan on the map as it were. Before that, only readers of comics and pulp-fiction novels knew who Conan was.

Now with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to reprise the role of Conan- who is now King of Aquilonia and in his late 60's. As was mentioned in earlier films He "Wears the crown upon a troubled brow..." I guess we'll finally get to see what troubles him.

If the Robert E. Howard books are any indication, Conan will tire of life in the palace. Remembering the words of King Osric- The Usurper, "There comes a time...When the Jewels cease to sparkle, when Gold...Loses its' luster, when the Throne Room becomes a prison..."

Conan might just be bored with it all and wants to go off on one last Adventure with his young son Conn.

But that is another Story...
But that is another Story...

So what do you think?

Will The Legend of Conan be as EPIC as the 1982 Conan The Barbarian?
