You're friendly neighborhood Spider-man is currently gracing our cinema screens all over the world and doing quite well in the box office respectively. That's why I thought it's a good a time as ever to count down Spidey's greatest foes. Lets kick off with #10.
10 - Sandman
Sandman, also known as Flint Marko is one of Spiderman's most popular foes over the years. He made his first appearance in 1963 in The Amazing Spiderman, issue #4. He also featured in the poor Spider-Man 3 in 2007 where he was played by Thomas Haden Church who did a good job in all fairness. He is a handful for the webslinger' and that's why he makes the list.
The Vulture aka Dr. Isidoro Scarlotti is another iconic villain in Spiderman's large array of troublesome foes. He is able to fly as if by natural winged flight. He wears a costume of synthetic stretch fabric housing a tailored electromagnetic harness with bird-like wings attached beneath the arms. All this makes him quite a handful for Spiderman who has yet to meet him on the big screen. I look forward to the day that happens.
Debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man #13, Mysterio is Quentin Beck, a special effects wizard and stunt man working for a major Hollywood studio with dreams of making a name for himself in the film industry. However, he came to see his career in special effects as a dead-end job. His attempts to become an actor were poorly received, but he realized that his expertise in illusions could make him an effective supervillain. This guy proves to be very effective against Spiderman with all his tricks and illusions. He will be a very interesting villain to see on the big screen which is very likely.
Brute force and menacing aggression is a key factor is Spidermans struggle with this tiresome villain. Very iconic and a fan favorite in the comics. Recently we saw a glimpse of the new mechanical Rhino setting up for The Amazing Spiderman 3 in which his costume gained mixed reactions.
he character first appeared as Cletus Kasady in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 (March 1991) and as Carnage in The Amazing Spider-Man #360. He is able to rapidly regenerate damaged body tissues much faster and more extensively than an ordinary human. It was said he would be the villain is Sam Raimi was to make a Spider-Man 4 to his trilogy. Maybe its better to wait til' CGI is slightly better to perfect him.
One of Spiderman's most exciting and thrilling enemies seen on the big screen in 2007 when James Franco "played" this character. Hobgoblin will always go down as one of Spidey's greatest enemies in the comics and we all wait til' the day he gets a good portrayal on the big screen.
Most people will know Electro from Jamie Foxx's recent portrayal in The Amazing Spiderman 2. He is a villain with very threatening powers of electricity and harnessing power to use at his disposal. He may have been a bit underused in the recent Spiderman movie, but that doesn't take away from his absolute power.
3. Doc Ock
A Spiderman villain that has a very detailed past with Spiderman from menacing fights, to actually taking over as Spiderman (without the wit and confidence). Its no surprise that he's up high on this list as he's one of the greatest villains ever. His on-screen portrayal in Spider-Man 2 is excellently done and proves to be the best villain of that trilogy. He has heart and evil desires but he is human. A great villain.
2. Green Goblin
Seen twice on the big screen by both Willem Dafoe and Dane DeHaan. Both of which were good in their own ways. Green Goblin probably deserves to be joint 1st because of his importance and legacy with Spidey but a list has to count down. Amazing villain all the same.
Is there anybody who doesn't love the iconic Venom? Course not. He's powerful, awesome and above all, a massive threat to Spiderman. It's debatable if he's a better villain than Green Goblin but I think he is. He was poorly done in Spiderman 3, but I'm sure we'll see a better incarnation of him in the future.
