Six weeks ago, box office legend James Cameron, the man behind the two biggest box office hits in history (Titanic and Avatar) announced in a Question & Answer session on Reddit that the scripts for three sequel movies for Avatar would be finished within the next six weeks, meaning that if pre-production is on-schedule... Dun, dun, duuuuun the scripts are now finished!

They’re essentially all in pre-production now because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.

With the final scripts finished, it seems that there's no turning back on some sort of revival for Dr. Grace Augustine, played by Sigourney Weaver! She has confirmed casting in all three of the sequel films, and only lightly hinted at her character's future, despite our original belief that she had died for good (what were we thinking?!):

I can’t talk about it, but my part is a little different in each one. I’ll transform somewhat.

It has also been confirmed that filming should begin this December in New Zealand. Well, since December is mid-summer for New Zealand, it looks like there's no hope for any Pandoran polar bears, penguins, and mammoths.. or is there? Filming for 3 extremely long movies could last well into this time next year. There's no guarantee for a snow biome, but according to Cameron we can definitely expect some marine life!

We're doing 'Avatar' films now, so we're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora

Cameron made this statement close to the initial announcement for the sequels, so one could expect this has been a starting concept since the beginning of the movie. Surely with James Cameron's genius ideas, we could end up seeing some awesome twists on earthly biomes: blue molten volcanoes, desert, storms, the possibilities really are endless and exciting!

We are going to start this time next year and we will do two, three and four. In one shot, we’ll do them simultaneously.

This is what Sam Worthington, the actor behind Avatar's main character Jake Sully, said last December. Co-stars Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver have also suggested a quickly approaching production date as to confirm Worthington's statement.

Avatar 2, 3, 4 are set to release one year apart from each other starting at the end of next year.
