The obvious lede to this story is that this news is truly outrageous: In addition to the recent announcement that Juliette Lewis was cast in Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the classic '80s cartoon Jem and the Holograms, it was announced today that the movie has also added Reagan era teen dream, Molly Ringwald.
We already know that Aubrey Peeples, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko and Stefanie Scott have been cast as Jem and the gang, so who'll the new additions play? Unfortunately, I don't know. But I'm demanding that Lewis be Pizzazz of the Misfits and Ringwald be either Synergy or Pizzazz's right hand, Stormer.
There's been a lot of speculation (read: Terror) that Pizzazz and Synergy won't be a part of this movie. If that's the case, Jon M. Chu, Scooter Braun, and everyone else involved in this production is denying what every Jem fan wants. Glamour, glitter, fashion, and fame. However, if they give us these iconic ladies as an evil rock band with questionable hair or a computer program able to create holograms at the press of a star-shaped earring, we're in business.
