After an unexpected higher-than-predicted turnout for the action thriller Godzilla this past weekend, the filmmaker behind development, Gareth Edwards (seen above), is already eager to get back into production as news surfaced today that Edwards will be the director of an unrevealed spin-off movie in the Star Wars universe.

It was previously announced that Gareth is also attached for the production of both a Godzilla 2 and Godzilla 3! Edwards' statement coinciding the announcement is also sure to please any Star Wars fans:

Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm.

Alongside the announcement comes news that the writer behind Book of Eli, Gary Whitta, will be writing the script for the movie! According to Bob Iger, three spin-off movies are set for production to release between episodes VII, VIII, and IX! Whoa, holy heck, what, THREE MORE?! But it was never made too clear whether the spin-offs would be connected sequels to each other or individual spin-offs in themselves.

Perhaps the bigger questions are what would the spin-offs actually be?! Rumors have spawned to suggest quite a variety of films! Including the Clone Wars, a Han Solo origins movie, and an in-betweener series to alight all the events within the 30ish year long gap from the sixth to seventh movies!

Star Wars Episode VII is set to hit theaters on December 18th, 2015.
