Just as Godzilla is kicking our asses in theaters, it seems that filmmaker Gareth Edwards is headed to a galaxy far, far away.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Edwards is now attached to direct one of the Star Wars spinoff films.

The script is being written by Gary Whitta (Book of Eli), and according to Disney and Lucasfilm in a statement posted on the official Star Wars website, the release date is scheduled to be December 16, 2016. It never ceases to amaze me these days when release dates are given and the fucking script hasn't even been written yet. No pressure, guys!

Of course, due to the ridiculous amount of secrecy surrounding the Star Wars franchise these days, it is unclear which movie Edwards will be overseeing.

Rumors are abound. There seems to be talk of a Boba Fett movie, a Yoda movie, and a Solo film. Even the early adventures of Luke Skywalker. But, it's Disney, it could very well be the store of a young Jawa princess who yearns for a better life.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has stated that there were plans to make at least three spinoff movies that would be released in between the main installments.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards in a statement release after THR broke the news.

From the $500,000 film Monsters to [Godzilla](movie:45291) to Star Wars. I guess dreams do come true, just other people's.
