Marvel Studios has been the source of some of the biggest and baddest superhero movies in the past decade, with many of them likely showing up on your own personal favorites list. They've turned some of the most unknown superheroes like Iron Man and Thor into the most recognizable in cinema history!
However, what you may not have known about are the collection of superhero movies that Marvel Studios has confirmed to be working on in the past. Some seem to be projects that died off, while others seem to becoming more and more likely to hit the big-screen in the next few years.
Some true Marvel fans may know about a few of these movies, but I can almost guarantee most of you would never have guessed half of these titles were ever in consideration for a movie!
#12: Cloak & Dagger
In 2005 before their smash hit Iron Man in 2007, Marvel Studios had plans for 10 movies based on Marvel comics. One of these projects was none other than the legendary duo Cloak and Dagger! These two runaway teenagers met by chance when underground drug lord's previously fatal tests failed on the teens instead giving them the power to wield light daggers and absorb matter into darkness! The two march off to siege war on the drug dealings in New York City.
#11: Power Pack
Like Cloak and Dagger, Power Pack was another film title that was in consideration at the beginning of the studio's production. These four young siblings are the children of brilliant physicist James Power, who after discovering the secrets to an unwieldy energy source finds himself amidst an alien conflict between two races. When a dying alien transfers his powers to James Power's children to protect their father and the energy source, the children become the superhero ensemble known as Power Pack. Kevin Feige also confirmed in 2010 that the movie was still in development. Let's see if it actually ever happens!
Perhaps the best of the movies that we know were in development at some point or another is Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu. Having been raised by supervillain Fu Manchu, Shang-Chi believed he was in the right until when on an assassination mission he realized that his father was really the evil one. In recent years Marvel Studios promised China to film some flicks there again soon after some production of Iron Man 3 was filmed within the country so many fans hoped and believed the promise was alluding to a potential Shang-Chi movie.
In 2009 during the production of Iron Man 2, Marvel Studios hired writers to begin formulating the best way to introduce some of their lesser-known heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Nighthawk, who I personally believe has one of the coolest costumes and names in all of Marvel, was one of the titles this team of writers was assigned to work on! Having been created by the Grandmaster (who has a decent connection with [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073)'s the Collector who will be seen on the big screen in August) as a villain to destroy the Avengers, Nighthawk betrays his team of villains to become a hero.
#8: The Vision
Despite the current hype behind the Vision and his appearance in the upcoming [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035), the Vision was also being thought about and brainstormed about for the best way to introduce him into a solo movie, but it seems as though plans have either changed or a solo movie for the Vision won't come about until after this upcoming Avengers movie. Could the Vision be looking at getting his own solo movie in the future? After being artificially created by the robot Ultron, the Vision was sent to carry out Ultron's orders and eliminate the Avengers until he realized the Avenger's truly good motives and turned his back on his own creator! He is also the husband of upcoming character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch!
In 2010, the internet began to circulate rumors about a potential Ka-Zar movie! And as we all know, as far as rumors go at least, you can never believe them completely. That was until Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige responded to the rumors and confirmed that they were indeed in early development! After his father discovered the Savage Land, a comic book equivalent for Jurassic Park with plenty of living animals thought to be extinct, Kevin ventured into the land with his father who was killed by Man-Apes. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) Kevin was found by Zabu, the sabertooth tiger with humaniod intelligence who went on to raise him.
#6: Heroes for Hire
Heroes for Hire was said to be in consideration for a Marvel Studios film in early 2013 by Marvel's Jeph Loeb. Heroes for Hire's roster over the years has included Ant-Man, Black Panther, Black Widow, Luke Cage, Elektra, the Falcon, Ghost Rider, the Hulk, Iron Fist, Shang-Chi, and most recently, She-Hulk! The heroes were hired like mercenaries for public and covert jobs in need of superhero assistance! The story arc includes a large array of stories and adventures for a collection of different heroes! This would be a blast of a movie!
[The Inhumans](movie:910490) have possibly the biggest and best movie potential on this list in my personal opinion! This is definitely a movie I would love to see more than most other Marvel projects! After the Kree began genetically experimenting on humans for the sake of creating an army to help defeat the Skrulls, a new breed of humans was created: the Inhumans. This species created its own civilization and social system, even forming a royal family based upon selectively breeding the Inhumans for the best genetic results. Inhuman's Crystal is also married to Quicksilver, the twin sibling to Scarlet Witch.
Earlier this year, Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce reconfirmed that he had written a script for a [Runaways](movie:22961) film! He stated that Kevin Feige, Marvel's current head honcho, is still a big fan of the script. This band of kids is a much more interesting combination of heroes. After watching their parents sacrifice a girl in an occult ceremony, the kids, as the title would imply, run away and become a very different ensemble than fans are used to seeing from Marvel comics! Their worst enemy at the start of their formation is their parents, and the kids even steal magic items and a pet dinosaur from the cult their parents head known as the Pride.
#3: Ms. Marvel
A script for a [Ms. Marvel](movie:949779) movie has been written as well as Kevin Feige confirming only a few months ago that she is absolutely still being considered for her very own solo movie!
After encountering the Kree hero Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers was accidentally subjected to otherworldly radiation that transformed her into a superhuman warrior. Calling herself Ms. Marvel, she established herself as one of Marvel's most powerful and prominent heroes both as a solo heroine and as a member of the Avengers. Recently, she has adopted the mantle of Captain Marvel for herself.
#2: Black Panther
The Wakandan Prince [Black Panther](movie:9047) has been in Marvel's sights for quite awhile! With unceasing rumors of his appearance in the Avengers 2 and a possible movie in Marvel's Phase 3. Stan Lee himself has also stated that a Black Panther movie will be coming soon! After the assassination of T'Challa's father and the king of the African nation of Wakanda.
#1: Doctor Strange
After being name-dropped in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) as well as being mentioned numerous times as a project of high interest by Kevin Feige, not to mention all the casting rumors, Doctor Strange is likely to be the next solo movie from Marvel Studios after next year's [Ant-Man](movie:9048). Having suffered a terrible accident destroying his ability to perform surgery due to the unsteadiness that came from the damage to his hands, Dr. Stephen Strange searched the world for a cure. When Strange met a mystic of sorts in the Himalayas, the man granted him magic abilities in his hands before the mystic passed away, and [Doctor Strange](movie:559685) has been fighting some of the darker wielders of magic ever since.
There are countless projects in development right now! Marvel has potential movie projects lining up until 2028 according to reports earlier this year! Meaning nearly 28 movies if you predict two movies a year! How exciting! Many of these titles are likely still in the works. Unfortunately I didn't have time to cover more of the widely known titles but luckily you probably already know all about them! I hope you learned a bit more about Marvel Studios!
Let me know which movies you'd like to see them develop and which you would leave on the cutting room floor!
I love the feedback!
