It has been announced that Godzilla director, Gareth Edwards has signed on to direct the first Star Wars spin off movie. This spin off is scheduled to release in 2016. There are still no details on what the spin off will be but the most common rumors seem to be about a Boba Fett movie, a Yoda movie or a young Han Solo movie. Personally I'd like to see a Boba Fett movie if it was out of them three.

I was very surprised when I heard about Edwards being signed on for a Star Wars movie, this guy is getting extremely lucky with his projects. In 2010 he directed a small indie film called Monsters and not long after he was signed on to direct [Godzilla](movie:45291)! And now he's on Star Wars!

I liked Godzilla, I didn't love it, I thought it had a lot of issues, some of them were with the directing. I thought that visually it was great but was lacking in character and story areas, so I'm not really sure whether I like this directing choice for a Star Wars movie. Studios have been lining up to work with this guy so I trust Disney with their choice.

I'm also in the group of people that doesn't really want spin off movies for Star Wars. I don't care what Han Solo was doing before Episode 4, I don't care about Yoda's origin story, because then when you see the characters in bigger films, you have that, mostly unnecessary knowledge of them. I want the spin off movies to take place in a completely different place in the Star Wars universe, there are an infinite amount of stories to be told within that universe so I don't see the point in doing movies about characters we already know and love.

I was surprised by this news but interested, because I think Edwards is an upcoming talent and his style would be interesting for a Star Wars film.

What spin off movie should Edwards direct?
