Director Edgar Wright (The World's End, Scott Pilgrim) was set to direct next years MARVEL film Ant-Man but it has now been confirmed that he is off the project.

Edgar Wright has been attached to this film since 2006, where he was originally just a screen writer. Marvel stated that "a new director will be announced shortly".

Wright has been attached to this film even before the first Iron Man film came out, he has gone to Comic-Con most years to give updates on the film and even showed fans test footage back in 2012.

Marvel and Wright parted ways "due to differences in their version of the film". It was stated that this would not affect the film's release date. The film will star Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily and Paul Rudd as the title character.

I thought Edgar Wright was a perfect fit for the [Ant-Man](movie:9048) film, his sense of wit and humor would have been perfect for the character, as well as his unique visual style. I am incredibly disappointed with this news because he has been attached to the film for so long and his style would have been perfect for the character.

We can see that Joss Whedon is also very disappointed by this, as he took a moment to hold a Cornetto up to his fellow director.

Are you guys as disappointed as I am by this news?
