I have read a couple of posts/comments saying Henry Cavill has been "shafted." In essence, some readers assert Cavill has been robbed of his starring role in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. And I agree, to a point. The movie was somewhat promoted as a direct sequel to 2012's Man of Steel. But if you read on you'll come to understand why the team-up movie is actually the best move for us movie-goers.

It's really only one reason.

To establish the wider DC Universe

I think I can count myself among the fans who thoroughly enjoyed Cavill's performance as Superman in the Man of Steel flick. The ladies much more, perhaps. The reasons are pretty self-explanatory.

So when I heard that there was going to be a Man of Steel sequel planned for 2015, I was elated, as were many in the comic book fandom! Then I learned it would be co-starring Batman!

As you might imagine I nearly had a heart attack.

Then came the Batfleck casting (which I immediately threw my support for), the movie being pushed up to 2016, and so on.

Then came The Tweet. You guys know what i'm talking about.

On May 13th, 2014 Zack Snyder, director of the film posted a monochrome pic of the Batsuit (which has been revealed to be black and grey) and the Batmobile. The world went nuts!

An enhanced version.
An enhanced version.

Then it was revealed what the eventual title of the blockbuster would be.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I was (and still am) so excited! Granted I would've preferred World's Finest but I state why it wasn't so in a previous article which you can read here:

But then I remembered something. "Wasn't the movie supposed to be a Man of Steel sequel?" So that got me thinking why not a sequel like planned?"

Here's the answer after all that reading. Whew!

It will help connect to the wider DC Universe!

A Superman sequel would've been great, but a movie showing the World's Finest meeting for the first time?! Just with that, the writers establish permanently that the Snyderverse contains more than just Superman. It contains Batman, Wonder Woman, and characters that eventually become these heroes' villains. Thus, characters not even depicted in the movie like Green Lantern or the Flash exist in the Snyderverse!

A [Man of Steel](movie:15593) sequel would've done more to further establish Superman's presence than it would the eventual Justice League or the DC Universe. It would've have been like the Dark Knight Trilogy where we only knew Bale's Batman. Though I want a Superman sequel, at this time the [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870) team-up is the most logical route to go.

There should be some good comments on this post. Sound off below if you agree or disagree with my assertions!
