Edgar Wright's desk may still be being emptied at Marvel, but the man made famous by Shaun of the Dead - and now for not directing [Ant-Man](movie:9048) - is clearly not one to stay idle for long.

Deadline are reporting that the director will move swiftly on to his abandoned reboot of Kolchak, The Night Stalker - and that Johnny Depp is being lined up to star. Intriguingly, the project is currently with Disney - until recently his de-facto employers with [Ant-Man](movie:9048).

[The Night Stalker](movie:364904) is the story of a tabloid news reporter who is drawn into an underworld of supernatural stories - to the persistent disbelief of his editor. It originated as a TV series and movie in the 70's, but has since been revived as a comic, published by Moonstone since 2003. Depp is reportedly set to play Kolchak himself - should his busy upcoming schedule allow it. With the script apparently ready to shoot, could this be Edgar Wright's chance for immediate cinematic redemption?
