When it was announced that True Detective would return with a totally new set-up for season two, it was hard to imagine how exactly the show-runners would pull it off. The whole feel of the series seems so rooted in deep south American Gothic it's hard to imagine it working in any other way.

Well, with the show now moving forward- and rumours already beginning to circulate- we finally have an answer to where this new location will be. Nic Pizzolatto, speaking with ToTheBestOffOurKnowledge, had this to say:

Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California. And we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.

"Psychosphere". Nice.

Could it work? well that all depends. They would have to find some pretty depraved "venues" to keep that wonderfully brooding tone, but Pizzolatto certainly seems to have those ideas in check:

In True Detective, the world itself is the crime, the world itself is poison; there's something ruinous at work here. The poison at the root of the world is humanity

In the interview he also announced that the new season will feature three leads with casting to begin "in earnest" in the next few weeks. Will it be Brad Pitt sitting behind the desk? Sadly, we'll just have to wait and see...

The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them, We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.

More on True Detective season 2 as we get it. Who would you like to see in the roles? Let us know below.
