In the comic book world Apocalypse loves having his 4 horseman ready to help him in his agenda. One thing that is consistent is that anyone could be chosen for him to turn into a horseman and over the decades many mainstream characters have become either Death, War, Famine or Petulance. So with that in mind I wonder if we will see Apocalypse take 4 characters already in the movie franchise and turn them into his Horseman. Let's take a look at who there is, if they have been a Horseman in the comics and which Horseman they could become.
Death tends to be the leader of the Horsemen and has been many of the X-Men past and present. Most notably is Angel.
Already introduced in X-Men The Last Stand, Angel is perhaps the most well known of Apocalypse's Horseman. He takes on the new name of Archangel which sees his pretty white wings replaces by mechanical blade wings! He is pretty sinister as a Horseman and is very ruthless. It is not until he breaks free from Apocalypse's control do we see him struggle to overcome what has been done to him. He is perhaps the most likely member out of all the cast that we could see turned into an agent of Apocalypse.
The next X-Man to be noted as Death is someone we know has been confirmed for the next movie. Gambit
Now the internet is buzzing with the news of Gambit being cast and Channing Tatum taking the role. But is this his fate? Could they be purposely avoiding using Archangel as the Horseman of Death? It is not all that crazy really. Gambit as Death was interesting in the fact he almost had an inner struggle as both Death and Gambit. Apocalypse himself said he was trying to make peace with his two halves. Time will tell but I think it is a pretty good choice for the Horseman of Death.
Our next candidate was in X-Men The Last Stand but was not an X-Man unlike her comic counterpart. Psylocke.
Now her powers were never really shown in the movies properly, instead they had her able to travel through shadows and ignored all her physic abilities which is a shame. In the comics she was turned into the Horseman of Death by Archangel when he was in essence becoming a new Apocalypse. So even thou she was never chosen by Apocalypse it would be a chance for them to redeem the character after the lack of effort put in to her in The Last Stand.
Next is someone that we all know, perhaps a little to well, and that is Wolverine.
He was Death after Apocalypse had him and Sabertooth fight for the mantel of being his Horseman Death. So first off if they did have this happen in the film we would have a smack down between 2 rivals. He knew in the comics Sabertooth would be a more dangerous adversary if he became Death so Wolverine was determined to win and claim the title. He did and after work from his team mates was able to break the control of Apocalypse and rejoin his friends. Now what is pretty exciting about this 1 being a Horseman is they could actually have a much darker Wolverine in the movie as it seems they have made him far more friendly in the past 10 years than he ever was in the comics before the movies started being made.
The final Horseman of Death is, Banshee
Now you all may be saying, 'This 1 will not happen cos he is dead in the movies' well he was in the comics also. The Apocalypse Twins used a Life Seed and Death Seed to resurrect him as one of their Horseman of Death. What would be amazing using him as a Horseman would be seeing Xavier and Magneto both stunned to see a former student back and now trying to kill them all. It is a wildcard as far as a Horseman of Death goes but it could be the start of the movies emulating the comics in the fact that no one truly dies forever.
So those are the characters that are in the movie franchise that have been Horseman. Now lets take a look at the other characters and which Horseman they could be turned in to.
War is the Horseman of few words but a lot of violence to make his point. So with that said he or she needs to be portrayed by a character with a lot of muscle behind them. First candidate is Colossus.
Even thou he has never officially taken the mantel of a Horseman he is a quality choice for War. Recently in the comics Colossus took the mantel of The Juggernaut which is another character more at home with smashing his point across over talking it out. So it would not be to difficult for them to find source material to see how a more reckless Colossus behaves. It would also allow for the character to have some development from the films franchise which would be a welcome change considering he has never really had much focus before.
Next lets look at Havok.
With the confirmation of Cyclops being reintroduced in X-Men Apocalypse as a student this could be a fantastic way for them to raise some important questions such as if Scott and Alex are brothers in the movie franchise. Now one way to indicate it to begin with is to simply bring in the fact their powers negate each other and cancel each other out. So if he was chose to be a Horseman he and Cyclops could fight and both discover their powers do not work against the other. He is also a bit more hot headed than his brother in the comics so letting him be a Horseman could allow for them to cut loose with the characters.
So with all the good guys going bad, lets look at a bad guy that wouldn't enjoy being a puppet, Magneto.
Now it is no secret from all the films that Magneto believes in mutant supremacy, but not the way Apocalypse would have in mind. Apocalypse believes only the strong should rule, where Magneto has never been shown to hold any indication of believing only strong mutants can rule. He just doesn't want the humans in control. This is one character that if turned into a Horseman we would most likely see him struggle to take back control and to strike at Apocalypse. It would also give them a chance to show the Magneto is not as extreme in his beliefs as Apocalypse.
Well why not look at someone with War already in his name, Warpath.
Warpath is a mean fighter already and knows how to smack down with the best of them. His name alone may bring him to Apocalypse's attention. If he was chosen he could prove more than a handful for the X-Men to fight against. He could also be coursed by Apocalypse to become a Horseman, by Apocalypse reminding him of how the Native Americans were persecuted for years and this is his chance for revenge against the humans who killed his ancestors.
Finally lets look at someone coming back as a student, Storm.
Considering she is going to be a student and her powers all depend on emotional control this could be the chance Ororo has been waiting for. The chance to let her powers go wild! If she was chosen as War Apocalypse would be offering he the chance to let her powers go wild and crazy and to forget all about emotional control. So with that being in mind she would easily fill the power needed for the character. It could also be the lesson she needs to learn that she must control her powers or she could kill hundreds in a violent storm and that emotional control is all good when you command the forces of nature.
Pestilence tends to be one of the more sadistic of the Horseman and enjoys to watch its victims suffer. So lets see who could bring that to the character.
First off is an obvious choice. Mystique.
Now given her shape-changing mutant abilities Apocalypse would already love the fact that she could turn into anyone and infiltrate a facility without the need of any help. She would be able to go into a water treatment facility and poison the water for him, or even simply get information for him that would come in helpful to his plans later. Also consider her not enjoying being someone else's lapdog this could be the final nail in the coffin to make her determined to run her own life once she is free from his control.
Next lets look at Rogue.
Given when you think of Pestilence you think of sickness and being weak, so who better than the mutant that can suck out your life force! If Apocalypse were to enhance her powers we could all be scared of Rogue by the end of the film. It would also further cement the fact that she is terrified of her powers and him doing this to her would make it even worse for her. I think it could be a brilliant choice for the Horseman of Pestilence.
Now lets look at a character that already looks sick, Toad.
Now apart from his appearance here is a character with some great potential as a Horseman especially that Horseman of Pestilence. With his prehensile tongue Apocalypse could easily make it so Toad is able to poison others when they come into contact with it. Add to that his slime spitting abilities he would have every disgusting way to deploy a virus on to others. He tends to be seen more as a laughable villain due to his name and appearance but by using him as a Horseman we all might hide behind the sofa after we see him in a new sinister light.
So let's take a look at someone with a deep past with Apocalypse. Blink.
Now in the comics Blink was raised in one of Apocalypse's Gene Pits and as a results truly hates him and wants to see him defeated. But that would take a lot of time to explain in the movie and would cause Blink to eat up a lot of screen time to go into it all. So why not change why she hates him so badly and have it so he genetically alters her and makes her his Horseman Pestilence. Her powers involve teleportation and she is much better at it that Nightcrawler. She could simply teleport all medicine away from a hospital, so no one can be treated for anything. As far as the Horseman's name goes, it would work nicely.
Now someone that did not have much screen time but was pivotal in The Last Stand, Leech.
Now in The Last Stand, Leech's powers turn off other mutations when in a close enough range. Apocalypse could alter his powers genetically so instead he turns off people's immune systems. Now that may seem like a pretty ineffective power but it would actually be one of the most deadly, without our immune system not only germs and bacteria are a threat, even fungus can call us. Now with that in mind I suspect you all agree, he could be a pretty good Horseman.
Much like Petulance Famine enjoys calculated strikes and thinking about how to deal the pain rather than just going in for a strike. So who could accomplish this task? Let's take a look.
First off why not someone like Pyro.
Not overly imaginative but Pyro could simply engulf fields of crops on fire destroying food for thousands of people. He has already been shown to be willing to follow the most powerful and those who will let him abuse his powers, so he could actually be a willing Horseman for Apocalypse. Apocalypse could also alter his genetics so Pyro can create the flame as well as control it, so it would make him much more deadly than before.
So if fire will work, why not ice? Ice Man.
Ice Man has been the poster boy for all that is good at the Institute so why not tarnish his record. Again like Pyro his powers could be used simply to destroy crops with his powers which again would work given the Horseman's name. I also think there is a secret bad boy waiting to erupt from Bobby so being a Horseman can allow him to tap into his darker traits and show everyone he is not a squeaky clean as we all thought.
Now let's look again at someone returning to the institute as a student, Jean Gray.
Now her being the Horseman of Famine could be simple. She could implant people with the idea they are constantly hungry, so with everyone binge eating it wouldn't take long before all the food would be gone. Seeing as the Dark Pheonix was a bust, this would allow them to show an evil Jean without ruining an iconic character in the process and seeing I highly doubt we will ever see her brainwashed and as the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, so this could be the best chance to see her all evil again.
Do you smell brimstone? Nightcrawler.
Someone people have wanted to see again since X2 and given his heavy religious views being used to help Apocalypse could really hurt him down to his core. With his powers being dependant on line of sight to work Apocalypse could enhance his powers so he can stay in the demon world he vanishes to during his teleportations, so he could simply take food and leave it there where no one can reach. He could even bring something through from that dimension that has a ravenous appetite.
Here Kitty Kitty Kitty. Kitty Pryde.
Kitty would be a good choice again as she could simply phase the food through the ground and leave it there. She could even have her powers enhanced by Apocalypse so that when she phases through someone they become weak and hungry. Kitty was also the representation of innocence on the team in X-Men The Last Stand so her being used like this could hurt some like Wolverine and Ice Man more than any other being used by him. With their also being rumours of a Kitty Pryde solo movie it could be the perfect chance for them to make one, having her deal with what happened to her and dealing with the aftermath of being Apocalypse's henchman.
Lets not forget...
In the Age of Apocalypse universe Apocalypse has an X-Man as one of his sinister scientist working for him, Beast.
Now could we see Beast captured by Apocalypse and turned into Dark Beast, a character that is as evil as they come. He enjoys torturing his vicitims as he experiments on them and is far from the gentle soul we have all seen in the Movies. It is a wild card but if we do not see any X-Men turned into Horseman this is the other chance was have, seeing him take Beast and turning him into a true monster!
Which would you most like see turned into a Horseman in the [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267)?
