The upcoming [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) will be set sometime in the 1980s, and we already know it will center around the beginnings of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm as teenagers.
A persistent question that has come up, of course, is how to replace Halle Berry's take on Storm, which many would argue has been a very under-utilized character (at no fault of Berry, if you ask me).
In other words: who can breathe fresh life into this impossibly powerful mutant during her formative years? Such an actress would have to be able to sell the raw power and brazenness of Storm as we've seen her in the comics.
Introducing: Lupita Nyong'o.
Raised in Kenya, Nyong'o is best known for winning an Oscar in her first film, [12 Years A Slave](movie:222641), for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, she's appeared in Nonstop with Liam Neeson and is lending her voice to the upcoming [The Jungle Book](movie:1038643) reboot.
Here's just a quick video of Lupita to give you a better impression of her voice and look:
As you can see, Nyong'o clearly has the look for Storm, and we even have an image of her sporting a white mohawk thanks to the Internet:
Now you may be wondering what the chances are that Lupita would even be considered for this role. Considering Lupita is currently a hot commodity in Hollywood right now off of her Oscar success, you can expect several studios to be eyeing her for various projects!
According to Gregg Kilday of THR, something big like an X-Men role could be just what Lupita needs to break big:
"Even after winning the Academy Award, Nyong’o faces a challenging lack of roles for darker-skinned actresses; says one agent, however: 'If she can find a franchise, a big crossover film, or if she's cast by a significant filmmaker, then she's golden.'"
For now, we can only hope that Donner, Singer and Kinberg are currently perusing this talented actor's résumé.
