What Is In Store For SyFy's Newest Show?

Since it premiered last April, Defiance managed to have a fairly decent first season. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Defiance tells a classic old world western story with a science fiction twist. Set in the aftermath of a devastating war, most of the show takes place in the titular town of Defiance, where aliens and humans try to build a new life on a terraformed Earth.

Aside from the occasional sub par episode, the show was met with fairly positive reviews and managed to attract a modest fan base. Establishing a brand new science fiction universe is often difficult, but the writers succeeded in making the post apocalyptic world of Defiance come alive. Great effort was put into creating seven alien species, each with their own unique culture and even language. These languages were actually created by David J. Peterson, whom some of you may recognize as the man who designed the language of the Dothraki from Game of Thrones.

Unfortunately for Defiance, SyFy has grown to be somewhat notorious for cancelling great shows just when they are getting started. Farscape was axed after just four years. More recently Being Human, Warehouse 13 and Eureka were all taken off the air by the channel, much to the dismay of loyal fans. While Defiance has been picked up for a second season (airing June 19th) nervous fans are wondering just how long it will be until SyFy decides to end yet another promising show.
