Fans have opinions. You could say that an opinion should be kept to itself. But with the war between these two titans, the fans rarely hold back. But which of these two is more popular? Just listen to my opinion before you say yours:

Marvel

Marvel are everywhere nowadays. Founded in 1939 as 'Timely Comics' by Martin Goodman, they included include some of your beloved characters that are still well known in the comicverse today such as Namor, Captain America and even the original Human Torch (Jim Hammond). They were at their prime throughout the 1960's with colourful, inventive new comics such as the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers and the X-Men, known as the Silver Age of Comic Books. Led by Stan Lee, it is evergrowing and characters are being constantly developed.

Live-action films is Marvel's strong point. On most occasions they have taken great actors and made them suitable for each character, which eventually ends up in masses of films in franchises like Fox's X-Men, Marvel Studios' MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Sony's Spider-Man. But the people behind these films are the real stars, with the talents of Kinberg and Singer for Fox, Feige and Whedon for Marvel Studios and Webb and Arad for Spider-Man. They also create amazing ensemble casts like X-Men or the Avengers, which put a lot of effort from the cast and crew to make it a dream.

However, their animation has not been too good and it has only taken off thanks to the inspiration of films like the Avengers. Their most notable work beforehand was the animation adaptation (that's kinda fun to say) of the comic book series 'Planet Hulk'.

The epitome of Marvel badassery.

On the whole, Marvel are great at what they are great at, but bad on some other terms.

DC

DC Comics were founded before Marvel in 1934 by Malcolm-Wheeler Nicholson. Introducing their characters early on, they became well-known throughout the Golden Age of Comic Books for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, who were all part of the god-like Justice League. Despite all the colour and glamour, DC are known for having darker stories, which can be seen more compelling for older audiences, which gives a variety of stories for all ages and cultures.

Gotta love this lot.

Live-Action films have to be DC's weakest point. Despite the epicness that was Christopher Reeve's 1978 Superman success, we have not seen a continuity pattern in their films, unlike Marvel. This can anger some fans, as they want to see the story unravel in many different types of films under the same studios. But recently, it has been announced that this universe is forming eventually, through Man of Steel 2, a Justice League film and multiple TV shows such as the Flash and Arrow, which already seem promising. They are now looking like a force to be reckoned with.

Don't try to deny it, it's happening.

The even more impressive feat is their animation. Starting off with Batman: The Animated Series, DC is now releasing new animated films and TV shows, which please the fans as much as any live-action film would. There are tonnes out there and I am sure you would have come across one or two before. If you haven't, give them a try, they're definitely worth the watch.
