With the anticipation growing high for the next installment of Earth’s mightiest heroes, The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to make the stakes higher. The risks will be greater. The treat will be bigger. As the title suggests, Ultron will be the main antagonist and he will have his robotic sights on the people we call our heroes. Who is Ultron you might ask? Well here’s a brief origin story *clears throat*.

Ultron is a sentient being that was created by Dr. Hank Pym (a member of The Avengers but one who will not be in THIS movie). When Ultron’s A.I. became self aware, he recognizes humanity as a danger to themselves and takes it upon himself to “rid us of our misery.” He gradually improves on himself constantly, and now has a Vibranium/adamantium shell and is virtually indestructible. He is one of the Avengers’ greatest enemies and will stop at nothing to eradicate them.

As I stated before, Hank Pym aka Ant Man will not be in the film. It is said that the creator of Ultron will be none other than our favorite and most recognizable hero, Tony Stark aka Iron Man. I have a theory, Which I’m sure everyone and their grandmother has, that Ultron will be the product of a corrupted A.I. aka Jarvis. And I think that might be one of the safest routes to take for his origin in this film.

I do not want to go into plot theories. The point of this article is to give you my “death” theories. Ultron puts the world basically into an apocalyptic state. He is known to have killed off The Avengers and then some. A threat THIS big, SOMEONE has to die, and it will have to have some kind of impact emotionally and even physically for the team. Director Joss Whedon has gone on record saying that death is a huge possibility for this next film so I have 3 possible choices that I think would make the most sense!

First up: Clint Barton - Hawkeye

Clint Barton is "Hawkeye"
Clint Barton is "Hawkeye"

Is Hawkeye a valuable member of the team? Sure he is. But is he indispensable? No he isn’t. In the first [The Avengers](movie:9040) film his main role was (excuse the language) Loki’s b*tch! Yea let’s face it. Hawkeye is an awesome character. He has a certain wit about him that can lighten any mood and he is also a bad ass archer. He could hit targets that nobody else could with an arrow. Hmm I wonder who would win in an archer competition, Hawkeye or Green Arrow? Discussion for later?! Anyways - here is why I think he could take an arrow to the knee and bleed out to death. Sure Kevin Feige has said that his role in Age of Ultron will be much bigger and more in depth but the dude doesn’t even have a solo film. He had a cameo in Thor and a brief moment of redemption in The Avengers. Why I don’t think his death would be that drastic? I’m not sure if it will be as effective as it was when Coulson got killed off. We, as an audience, have no emotional connection to him really. So maybe that could save his character? Maybe.

Second: Wanda Maximoff - Scarlet Witch

This is a bit controversial. Elizabeth Olson will be playing her character, and she along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson have JUST signed on to be the next Avengers team members as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver respectively. SW is known to have magical powers. They can’t be referred to as mutants even though that is their origin. You know studio rights and all. So to have her introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a great addition because it will introduce the world of magic and possible easily introduce Dr. Strange. Yes Dr. Strange has been named dropped in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) and is already in development. I think her death will greatly impact her twin brother QuickSilver and could easily be a motive for him joining forces with our favorite team for revenge against Ultron. Now being that she is a sorceress of magic and another notable “skill” of hers is to manipulate reality and probabilities, maybe she could have survived her death? End-Credit scene anyone?

Third (and probably the best choice): – James “Rhodey” Rhodes - War Machine

This is my best choice for a significant death in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035). He is Tony Stark’s best friend. He has military ties and he has been casted in the film. He was absent in The Avengers but he will definitely have a role in Age of Ultron. Nothing has been said, we do not know how big his role will be, but could THIS be a part of it? Tony Stark has retired his suites. He inadvertently created Ultron. War Machine becomes a casualty of war. Tony gets pissed and now has to suite up again to “avenge" his friend’s death. He needs to unite the team again and stop this threat. I’m not sure where Don Cheadle’s contract ends with Marvel so this is pure speculation but it will make for a much better story and plot motive.

Well there you have it! Please share your thoughts and let me know how you feel. Who do you think will bite the bullet? Do you agree with my suggestions or do you have another character in mind?
