When there is such huge public affection for a couple, the rumors inevitably wriggle out of the wood work at a rate of knots. At the moment, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are firmly in the spotlight thanks to the outpouring of grief over the death of beloved Damon in The Vampire Diaries.
Unfortunately for us fans, this not only means more coverage of our favourite former couple, but also more fabricated lies. As websites capitalize on the pairs popularity to gain more hits, it is hard to know what to believe when it comes to Somerhalder and Dobrev's relationship. Especially when they are such close friends and have shown moments of public affection in the not too distant past.
The latest rumor buzzing around [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) fandom is that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have met in Europe and that the hunky star wasted no time putting a ring on it.
According to the aptly named Celeb Dirty Laundry, the pair both attended the world music awards in Monaco and they made the most of their time together by 'going off radar' thanks to the presses interest in the musical acts.
But after following Somerhalder's movements closely for the last few weeks, there are more holes in this rumor than in a hunk of Swiss cheese. Namely that Somerhalder probably wasn't even there!
As all of us über fans know, Ian WAS in Europe on the date of the World Music Awards (27th May 2014).
But, he was nowhere to be seen at the ceremony. Dobrev however was prominently photographed.
Although Celeb Dirty Laundry explains this by saying he went 'under the radar' at the event. I just don't think that would be possible.
Ian Somerhalder is a major celebrity whose name is on everyones lips after the sensationally saddening ending of The Vampire Diaries Season 5. The idea that not one single photographer (or, indeed, a fan) would have snapped a picture of him is absurd.
As for the engagement? It seems like the source simply plucked that rumor out of their ass. As much as I would like to see 'Nian' back together again, there is no evidence at all out there that they really are.
Their breakup was speculated to have revolved around the fact that 25-year-old Nina Dobrev was not ready for marriage, so the idea that they somehow rushed into a secret engagement doesn't ring true to me...
So, for the first time ever, I give this story an almighty 5 bulls**ts out of 5 on my buls**t-o-meter.
If it wasn't for the engagement story I would have given it a four because Ian was actually in Europe so a meeting was geographically possible, but nothing spells gossip column lies like a fabricated engagement. Nice try, guys.
Do you think there could be any truth in the World Music Awards engagement rumor?
