Angelina Jolie sits atop the Box office charts with her first genuine hit this week for Maleficent. The film is a retelling of the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty but the actress has revealed this week that what brought her to the story was something entirely new.

In Robert Stromberg's newly released film, the Princes Aurora is not woken from her slumber by the charming Prince's kiss but by the kiss of the the film's anti hero, Maleficent herself; A piece of romance ditched in favour of something more maternal.

Linda wrote this beautiful story and when I read it, I was so moved, It’s all about the very question of what love is. And even if you don’t have children, you still have parents, so you know that this kind of love is the truest form.

Jolie went on:

What also works is that true love’s kiss came from the person who really didn’t believe she was capable of any kind of goodness or love — that she would in any way be loved or have love is something she’d long ago dismissed from her life. So the thing is not only that she does express it, but it’s the shock for her, which I think is so beautiful.

Before quite eloquently rounding it up

This movie is about the things that can bring us back and open us up again after feeling so dark and so lost and so angry. That, to me, is the most beautiful thing about it.

The actress is receiving rave reviews but murmurs are circulating that her upcoming portrayal of Cleopatra might be her last. Say it ain't so.
