When The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October, we'll see the return of some familiar faces - as well as a couple of new recruits.

In the priestly corner we've got Father Gabriel Stokes - a holy man with a dark secret - while in the one-legged corner we've got Burton, a kid with an "infectious" personality.

So who exactly are these new faces? What do they want? What role will they play? And most importantly, what does this mean for Rick and the group?

Let's find out, shall we.

Father Gabriel Stokes

Played By: Seth Gilliam (The Wire)

Appearance: Black jacket, shirt and trousers; clerical collar:

Comic Book Back Story: Before the apocalypse Stokes was the reverend of a local community church in Georgia. However, he harbors a dark secret: he turned away survivors during the early days of the zombie outbreak and listened to the screams of the dying men, woman and children as they were ravaged by walkers outside the church walls.

What's He All About: Despite his dark past, I think Father Gabriel Stokes will be more-or-less a force for good on [The Walking Dead](series:201193). Every single character on the show has done horrible things in order to survive and Stokes is no different.

I think he also the holds the key to Beth's survival as I have a strong suspicion he was the guy responsible for taking her from the funeral parlor.

How Long Will He Survive? At least one season.

Played By: TBA

Appearance: 17-year-old kid with one leg

Comic Book Back Story: Burton is unique to the TV show, but I think his character arc might be based on the last days of Dale. Which brings me to...

What's He All About? Here's the interestingly-worded description of Burton from Spoiler Chat:

He may be young, but he's already suffered great tragedy when he lost his leg. Luckily Burton does not let his disability keep him down, and his positivity is infectious to everyone else around him.

There are two things here that struck me as odd: Firstly, that he lost a leg and secondly, his positivity is "infectious" to "everyone around him".

It seems a deliberate choice of words, and very evocative when used in the context of a zombie apocalypse.

I have a strong suspicion that Burton might be used for the "tainted meat" storyline from the comics. It's an iconic arc, that involved Dale, the Hunters and some munched-on limbs.

I think we'll come across Burton in the Season 5 premiere, when he's thrown into the same holding container as Rick and the gang. His leg will be missing, with signs that it was recently amputated, similar to how a butcher might hack up a pig.

Despite losing a leg, Burton is in high spirits - even chuckling to himself. The group don't understand how someone who's had an appendage eaten can be full of mirth - until they notice the wound on his shoulder... Turns out Burton got nabbed by a walker shortly before being captured by the Termites, but they never noticed.

Instead of tucking into the choicest cuts of human steak, the Termites have, in fact, been gobbling on tainted meat.

And then all hell breaks loose....

How Long Will He Survive? One episode.

Like I said, this is just a theory. But it would be way awesome if it came true.

Is Burton Tainted Meat?
