So it looks like Disney has got major plans for the Star Wars Universe beyond that of the new Star Wars trilogy Episodes. A few weeks back Godzilla director Gareth Edwards was attached to direct a new stand-alone Star Wars film.
Today Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has announced that Josh Trank, who is currently filming the Fantastic Four reboot over at 20th Century Fox has been attached to direct a stand-alone Star Wars film. Kennedy was quoted as saying “We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family.. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”
Trank responded to the news with “The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”
Many movie fans know Trank as the man behind the smash sci-fi hit Chronicle that was released in 2012.
