So, I also write a little blog called Chick Flicks and Beer in my spare time. Over the last 5 years, I've forced myself to sit through countless chick flicks in an effort to help women discover what chick flick they might be able to "force their boyfriend" to watch. I also drink beer while I watch these chick flicks because…well…I'm still a man!

Here are my top 5 chick flicks for guys!

5. 500 Days of Summer (2009)

Yeah, it might have its faults. But, 500 Days of Summer has a male protagonist. If your going to have sit through a chick flick it is key to have a male protagonist. Why? Because us cavemen don't understand women. Which is exactly what this movie is about. It also has Zooey Deschanel. And, if anyone out there is arguing that this isn't a "chick flick" then think again. The tagline is, "This is not a love story. This is a story about love."

4. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Watch out for those heels, boys!
Watch out for those heels, boys!

The reason this movie is so good is because by the end of it we forget that its Meryl Streep acting. She’s that good. Meryl Streep is the devil, and not just because she's in Mama Mia or countless other chick flicks. In this movie, she's the devil. Or, at least a magazine editor.

What did we learn as guys? Maybe, we learned that you gotta let a girl go out there and do her own thing. Maybe you girls learned that you can’t please everyone all of the time. Hopefully, all of us learned to stand up for ourselves a little bit. Personally, I think the devil really does wear Prada.

3. Legally Blonde (2001)

Legally Blonde falls into the #3 spot because I really wanted to irritate some of you guys out there. Really? Legally Blonde? The #3 chick flick for guys? The guy who made this list is such a wuss!

Yeah, that's right, #3! If you guys can learn anything from Legally Blonde its to chill out. We're talking about chick flicks! I mean it has a dog in it. Guys like dogs, right? Guys can be so mean. Girls really do have more fun!

2. Love Actually (2003)

While this was an extremely well written movie with an amazing ensemble cast I think it was the underlying message, “Love actually is all around,” that made it such a great film. There were many lessons to be learned from this film (for both sexes). Maybe it was to appreciate the love your already have in your life. Or, for us guys, maybe it was just to verify that if we go to a different country we become exotic, immediately meet 3 amazingly hot roommates, and get to have the best sex of our lives. Whatever it was, I think the scenes of couples embracing at the airport, that bookend the film, really show what this film was all about. This is a great film for a guy or a girl.

1. The Notebook (2004)

What? The Notebook? Yeah, that's right, The Notebook! What did you expect? Die Hard? Remember what I said about male protagonists (for all you cavemen out there that means main character)? Well, this has one. And, it can either be incredibly romantic or hilarious depending on how you look at it. It's all perception. Don't forget that your girlfriend or wife will love you for sitting through this with her. Real men watch The Notebook!
