As DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was coming to theaters, director, Bryan Singer, became embroiled in scandal. Singer was accused of providing drugs and alcohol, as well as raping the then-15-year-old Michael Egan. Singer respectfully bowed out of promoting X-Men: Days Of Future Past to keep the bad light from affecting the movies success while vehemently denying the charges.
Well the rumor mill is buzzing once again and, this time, it seems to be pointing to Singer, not only hiding in the shadows, but being phased off future X-men stories all together (that is as director). Some sources say that Bryan would be kept on as a producer of the project.
Needless to say, Singer's lawyers are mad as fire! The deal inking and linking him to the next installment, X-Men: Apocalypse, has been a done deal for a while. So, the rumors have it that Singer walked out of the talks and rightfully so. Singer hasn't been convicted of anything yet and the 'controversy' did not slow down the monetary success of DAYS. (or, if it did, it was still a massive success for FOX AND Singer)
"Singer and his lawyers have stated they have proof that refutes the allegations as Singer was out of the country at the time the alleged incidents occurred."
So if the rumors are true, Fox is going to have a hard time breaking it off with Singer that easily. Bryan would have an argument for breaking contract and that would be just as bad press. Watch for things to be handled on the down low and for Fox to not make much press noise about this.
