Doctor Fate is one of the oldest characters in the DCU, and one of the coolest. The identity of Doctor Fate has been claimed by more people than most superhero identities have been. In a recent trailer for "Constantine", a show that will be airing on NBC, we catch a glimpse of Doctor Fate's famous helmet. This might mean that Doctor Fate could appear on the show. If this is true, and Doctor Fate gains some popularity, then maybe, just maybe, we might se him in a movie in the not so distant future. The fun thing about casting this character is that all bets are off. What I mean by this is that: a.) this actor could really be any age (adulthood, obviously), and b.) it could be a man or a woman of any race. Not only has Doctor Fate's helm been dawned by both man and woman of multiple ethnicities, but it wouldn't be hard to come up with a new secret identity for the character, for Doctor Fate could posses anybody on the planet. Whew. That was a mouth full (screen full?). Here are Five Actors Who Could Play... Doctor Fate:

But first...

What do you think is the best direction for Doctor Fate to go?

Now for the Five Actors....

1.) Josh Radnor

WAIT!!! Please read this part before you lose your cool. Josh Radnor, star of "How I Met Your Mother", is now quite a TV personality. I am only casting him to appear on the TV show as a guest star a few times (and maybe become a reoccurring or even main character in the future). This is very reasonable. While he is not the best choice in the world (or even in this article), he is recognizable, and he is a viable choice.

2.) Tim Robbins

We all know Tim Robbins from his amazing performance in "The Shawshank Redemption". I've been wanting to see him as a superhero or super villain. But, at his age, the possibility of doing that is slimmer than if you are in your twenties or thirties (or even forties). But, it might just be the coolest thing to ever happen if Tim Robbins put on the cloak and helmet of Nabu. This would be better off in film.

3.) Terrance Howard

Wouldn't this be awesome. I was totally bummed when he didn't reappear in Iron Man 2 to play War Machine (not that Don Cheadle wasn't great). I think it is now about time that Terrance Howard play a superhero. And what a great opportunity to diversify comic book films.

4.) Emma Watson

Everybody loves Emma Watson. If you say you don't love Emma Watson, you're confused. She won our hearts as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films at the early age of nine, and only improved from that point. Now she is 24, and she is a knockout as well. I think we should giver her another chance to play with magic as Doctor Fate.

5.) Benedict Cumberbatch

This is the absolute best choice to play Doctor Fate. This is also the absolute best comic book anything for Benedict Cumberbatch to play. He is being look at to play Doctor Fate's Marvel analog, Doctor Strange, but that doesn't fit him as well. There is something about Doctor Fate that works perfectly with Benedict Cumberbatch. He is a force for order. Dr Strange is less formal. Some of you may agree, some of you may strongly disagree, but there is no doubt that this would be a beautiful match. If you don't believe me, just imagine Benedict Cumberbatch's booming voice performing some anti-chaotic chant/spell from behind the golden Helmet of Nabu.

Tell me who you think is the best choice in the comments.

Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for part four.
