When they announced that this film was going to be created, and then they announced all the actors from previous films will return to reprise their roles, including Bryan Singer directing it, I was thrilled! It is considered one of the best comic book storylines in X-Men universe, also with the perfect cast and perfect director, the film had high expectations, and not only did they match it, they exceeded it.
But when this title says 'Greatest Superhero Movie', there are two films that come to your mind in comparison, 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Avengers', but DoFP simply has the best of both worlds in my opinion!
Before we get started, I would like to point out that I am a huge fan of these three films and give huge credit to the quality of the movies, and I do not intend to show otherwise.
Lets start with the comparison to [The Avengers](movie:9040), the greatest positives of the Avengers are multiple Superheroes getting rid of petty rivalries and coming together to wipe out the greater evil, sound similar! Despite fans crying out over the complete awesomeness of Thor, Iron Man and Captain America on the big screen together, but people were reacting similar to the young and old Professor X talking to each other.
[X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) also had a much deeper storyline than the Avengers, when you think about it, it was simply Aliens invading and Superheroes joining together, with only 5-6 characters to care about. In X-Men DoFP, there is time travel included, with multiple major storylines and 9-11 characters to care about. Also, fans of the Avengers (including me) hoped that Hawkeye will be an epic part of the storyline, but really, he wasn't. However people hoped the same for Quicksilver, but this time, not only was it pulled off, but he was possibly the best part of DoFP! And the Sentinels are more bad-ass than the Chitauri
Now onto the Dark Knight, which is admittedly a much harder challenge to overcome. In the Dark Knight the majorly deep and dark storytelling, so dark in fact that it can actually throw some people off. If people were to give any negative criticism to this movie, it would be that it is overly dark. In X-Men: DoFP, there elements of dark tone, but when it occurs, it is immediately respond with necessary humorous tone to balance the storytelling, which I give full credit to Bryan Singer, who knows exactly when to insert dark/light scenes to balance the tone of the storyline.
Also, credit is too the perfromances in the Dark Knight, in response to that, I belive that James McAvoy gave his best performance in his acting carer in this film, despite that it still does NOT top Heath Ledgers performance as the Joker, that was awesome.
Of course people are not going to agree, in fact I'm probably in the small percent of people who feel this way, but this is my defense. Hopefully, with [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) coming out in 2016, that can be even better!
