With all the delicious news floating around the various media outlets (MoviePilot being the best of course) about Avengers: Age of Ultron, I can’t help but think how the movie will play out. How will Joss Whedon one-up one of the highest grossing films to date? How will he take it up a notch where it is just bigger and better than the first? I reported to you yesterday about potential [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) Spoilers, if you haven’t read it yet click here, but what about what it could all mean?
Here are my theory/theories on how the movie will go.
**Disclaimer** None of what you are about to read is proven as fact. These are just MY thoughts based on what we know so far, and what we can speculate.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT.
Theory 1 – Iron Man’s relation to the story.
Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe started off with Iron Man 3 (Please no booing, it was “OK”). While this film was done in a different direction than previous ones, and there was NO sign of S.H.I.E.L.D. or any of the other Avengers for that matter, there is a correlation with this film and the rest of Phase 2.
At the end of [Iron Man 3](movie:24391), we see Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) blow up all his suits to start fresh. The suits were all run by J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just a Rather Very Intelligent System, Ha! bet you didn’t know that), Tony’s A.I., but HE was in control of Jarvis. I’ll get to what I think could become of that later. Also at the very end, Tony removes the Arc Reactor from his chest. We took that to mean that he is done with suiting up as Iron Man. Wrong!
In the plot details released yesterday, Latino-Review reported that the Avengers will team up against a HYDRA cell. At the end of that battle, they all head back to Avengers Tower, formerly Stark Tower, to celebrate and Iron Man IS in fact in his suit trying to lift up Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir when he accidently breaks an arm off the suit. So in fact, Tony has been VERY busy and will in fact be updating his armor like he did with everything else related to the Avengers. He will also building the Quinjet for the superhero team.
The plot point of how Ultron is created lies on Tony Stark being his creator. Now, I don’t think he directly created the sentient. Here is where I talk about Jarvis. Tony creates a new Iron Legion to help police threats to Earth. With S.H.I.E.L.D. disbanded, he feels that this is the best option. However Jarvis doesn’t necessarily make the calls on his own. Nor can he even think for himself. We saw that at the end of Iron Man 3. He tried Killing Pepper thinking she was one of the Extremis soldiers. Realizing this, Tony most likely creates a new A.I. One that can think for itself. One that can lead the legion in his absence. I believe the A.I. becomes self aware and then corrupts Tony’s written code and THEN becomes Ultron.
Theory 2 – The Twins and The Avengers
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will first be soldiers of Hydra, but NOT intentionally. During the mid-credit sequence of [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973), we see Baron von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann), holding them as prisoners. In the same scene we see Loki’s staff from The Avengers. We know this staff has mind control powers. I believe that the twins will be under this control. Von Strucker, and his team of scientist, will have unlocked the secrets of this weaponry and use it to their advantage. The twins will be fighting the Avengers during the first 15-20 mins of the film, but I do believe that mid-way there will be some making up. The team will have figured out that they were under orders beyond their control (kind of like how Hawkeye was under Loki’s), and they will in-turn open their arms to the twins. Now, they won’t join at first, but eventually they will. I believe this will take place during the 3rd and final act of the film. HOW it will happen, sh*t I don’t know I haven’t read the script yet! This leads me to my final theory.
Theory 3 – Death and Appearances/Potential Re-Appearance?
This will be PURELY rumor and speculation. This is where reading between lines comes in to play. I posted an article a little while ago about deaths in Age of Ultron. There were popular choices from the fans that Hawkeye and/or War Machine aka Rhodey will bite the bullet. I forgot to mention as a possibility, Nick Fury. Ok hear me out.
I believe we can still count on Hawkeye staying alive until Avengers 3. I believe Whedon will explore a relationship between him and Widow in this sequel. Or maybe he will explore a certain love triangle with him, Widow, and Hulk? Check out this article here, but AFTER you finish mine haha.
War Machine, however I think he will be written off. I think it will take place during possibly the 2nd or 3rd act. Ultron will be going after the team. He will most likely be picking off the solo heroes first. James Rhodes will most likely be the first to go. During a one on one battle he will be giving his all against Ultron but Ultron will come out victorious. The team will get wind of this and this will force Tony in to “badass” mode. Here, I think he will create a whole new suit to go toe to toe against this sentient monster after realizing that his previous suit has no chance.
The next death I think will be Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Jackson’s contract is up on the 7th film, and Avengers: Age of Ultron is and will be his 7th time playing the character. Now, at the end of [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469) he leaves the responsibility of rebuilding the security force to Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). There really is no more need for Fury in the MCU. He has formerly retired as Director and I don’t know, nor think there are any plans to extend his contract. Sure it is subject to change, but this is just my speculation. Now this leads me to Coulson.
I find it HIGHLY unlikely that he is running around kicking ass in the name of S.H.I.E.L.D. and not even Tony Stark knowing about it. Not to mention, he was such a huge driving force to creating the Avengers, I think it will be pointless if he does not make a reappearance to the team. “Hey guys remember me, got shanked by Loki, and got you guys to fight as a team, yea I’m back bitches!”
S.H.I.E.L.D. is now being left to him and he will be the new face for the organization. Whedon can easily write his character and their role into the story. There needs to be some redemption for the security force after the shameful reveal of it being run by HYDRA. I believe Whedon and Gregg are keeping this on the hush and will try to maintain that secrecy as long as they can. Clark Gregg isn’t on the cast list yet on imdb.com but has gone on record during an interview with assignment X:
AX: Can you say if you as Coulson are in AVENGERS 2?
GREGG: [smiles] I can’t say. I’m not allowed to say anything – I can neither confirm nor deny. But I am very busy here. Assignment X
You can take that with a fat grain of salt but is there a possibility? Hell, Gregg didn’t even know until the last minute that he was going to be “killed” in the Avengers. Coulson’s character has become a fan favorite since his first appearance in Iron Man. It would only be right to include him in Avengers 2.
As for another appearance, we have The Vision (Paul Bettany). Vision is an android that was created by Ultron. Paul Bettany also plays the voice of Jarvis. Connection anyone?
I believe that during Ultron’s upgrading time, (it’s said he will have 3 versions with a Vibranium Shell being the last), he will need someone to do his dirty work. He will create the Vision but how can he accomplish this?
He will have then corrupted Jarvis’ A.I. system. Vision isn’t said to make an appearance until the 3rd act. I believe he will be working in the dark throughout the film until his final reveal. Question is, will he return to the good side before the end of the film or not until the beginning of Avengers 3? I think he will turn on his master during the final act when they all team up against Ultron. What will make him turn to good? Maybe Scarlet Witch will have something do with it. Whedon will have no problems writing this as I knew he has experience with script like this.
Will we be seeing an end to Ultron at the end of Avengers 2? I don’t think so. End Credit Scene!
Well there you have it. I don’t know if any of this made sense to you, but it’s just from my head to paper for you to read. We won’t really know more details until more news is leaked. We also can expect to see a showing of Age of Ultron at ComicCon 2014. I believe cast and directors will be revealing big news during the event that will lock the internet for a good couple days.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters May 1, 2015.
