It’s been 20 years since The Lion King won all of our hearts on the big screen. Followed by a successful number of sequels, it’s gone down as one of the most iconic and universally loved films in Disney history. Disney Junior has announced their new spin on our favorite African Pride.

The Lion Guard will premiere in Fall 2015 as a television movie, then followed with a series to debut in early 2016 on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel. The story begins in the heart of the African Savanna, as Kion (the second-born cub of Simba and Nala) assembles a team of his close friends to preserve the Pride Lands.

The show is said to focus on conservation education, the importance of family and community, while also highlighting creative problem-solving skills and diversity. They even brought in consultants from the Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida to serve as advisors on The Lion Guard stories.

The show will include special appearances by our favorite childhood characters, including: Zazu, Rafiki, and of course…Timon & Pumbaa!

Personally, I’m extremely excited for this news. The Lion King has had incredible success on both stage and film and I’m sure this series will be no different! It’s bound to teach a new generation about the beauty within The Circle of Life.
