Ever since the trailers started airing, the TMNT fan-boys have lit up the internet with their rage over the new Turtles look. They have ranted about Donnie's goggles and Mikey's nose. Some have even begun to regret Megan Fox being anywhere near this project. But most have given William Fichtner as Shredder a pass. Not me. I've been worried about his ability to pull off such an iconic Asian since the beginning (Don't call me a

BUT MICHAEL A. ESPINOZA of has went one step farther. He has gone on to suggest that we have all been misdirected. He believes that the character of Eric Sachs (played by William Fichter) is nothing more than a red herring. That, while we think we're looking at Shredder, there's another actor filling the big suit with the blades all over it.

Check out the above picture. What we think we're seeing is a shot of Eric Sachs looking at an empty suit. What Espinoza says is that what this scene might depict is Sachs looking at the REAL SHREDDER!

His reasoning? Number one, Sachs, of course, doesn't fit the bill and doesn't work as the Shredder when both him and Splinter are steeped in 'Japanese motif'. He also reminds us that the Shredder mask, besides being there to intimidate the hell out of us, was worn to cover the scars left there by Splinter himself.

So, unless Nickelodeon is about to spit on the source material (Who does that anymore, right? lol), it would make no sense that Sachs is the Shredder. It would make more sense that he is the American mouthpiece; the front man. That he's taking orders from the guy with the blades and the Foot.

Also, if Sachs isn't the Shredder, does that mean that the gun totting terrorists with the bushy eyebrows aren't the Foot? Hmmm....maybe misdirections abound here, True Believer!

So, if Sachs isn't the Shredder, who is? Well, according to Espinoza, the most likey choice is Karai.

Karai (辛い?) is a fictional character in various installments of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) comics and related media, where she is usually a high-rank member of the Foot Clan ninja organization. She was originally introduced in Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's comic book series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1992. Since then, she has appeared in several different TMNT comics, cartoons and films, as well as in multiple video games.
In some incarnations of the character (in particular the 2003 cartoon, the 2012 cartoon, and the 2010s comics), she is closely related to the villain Shredder as his adopted daughter or biological granddaughter. However, in her original comic incarnation Karai was completely unrelated to the Shredder and was actually higher in the Foot Clan's global hierarchy. In most works, she shares an ambiguous rivalry with the Turtle Leonardo.

Could she be Shredder? I don't know. Espinoza seems to think so due to Nickelodeon being in charge and their past treatment of the character. In the end, I might agree with him that Sachs may not actually be Shredder, but I'm not sure I'm ready to tout the Karai theory yet.

What do you think?
