Nine-time World Champion Christine Bannon-Rodrigues shoots her scene in "The Martial Arts Kid" today. I was able to catch up with her shortly beforehand and get her feelings and thoughts about being in the film and the film itself.
"I am looking forward to having a cameo appearance in the 'Martial Arts Kid' movie", says Bannon-Rodrigues. "From what I have been told, I will be playing myself with some other Martial Arts celebrities like Olando Rivera, Jeff Smith, possibly Bill Wallace - if hes feeling better from an injury - and others. We will be the Master instructors as several hundred Martial Artists are training on the beach."
She feels the fight scenes in the movie will be top-notch with all the talent on hand and martial arts/action-movie star James Lew coordinating them all.
"I'm sure the fight scenes will be outstanding seeing they have one of the best fight choreographers around, James Lew", says Bannon-Rodrigues, who adds that the film will be special, since it will be co-headlined by martial arts/action-movie legends Don "The Dragon" Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock and co-produced by former kickboxing champion Cheryl Wheeler-Duncan and James Wilson.
"Don Wilson, James Wilson, Cheryl Wheeler and Cynthia Rothrock have been great friends of mine for so many years! Its just fun to go and be part of something they are working so hard on", says Bannon-Rodrigues. "It's nice to see another Martial Arts movie being produced for kids and teaching them the values the Martial Arts has to offer."
Bannon-Rodrigues is one of the biggest jewels in an already overstuffed treasure chest of martial arts champions and masters to be part of "The Martial Arts Kid".
It is also her first role in a major film since 2004's "Sc-Fighter", which, like "The Martial Arts Kid", was co-headlined by martial arts/action-movie legends Cynthia Rothrock and Don "The Dragon" Wilson.
Bannon-Rodrigues is the winner of over 100 major National and International Karate Tournaments. She has won a total of over 1,000 trophies in her competitive career, as well as over 100 Grand Championships.
Bannon-Rodrigues's accomplishments at the W.A.K.O. (World Association of Karate and Kickboxing Organizations) Games has earned her several world records, including the honor of having been the only person - man or woman - to have ever won three World Titles at a single event.
Bannon-Rodrigues established another world record when she did the same in 1993, making her the first person in history to have ever won three World Titles in two consecutive W.A.K.O. Games. Her aggregate total of 9 World Titles is yet another unprecedented and as of yet undisputed world record.
