News broke this morning of Harrison Ford sustaining an ankle injury on the set of Star Wars Episode VII, kicking off a chorus of gasps from fans everywhere (or, well, this writer's mouth; but details, details...). Ford has been airlifted to a hospital in London after being injured on the Millennium Falcon herself. While Han Solo is recovering, as he always does, let's take a look back at some of Ford's coolest, and strangest ailments on set:
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Toilet
If Indy looks so done in this particular scene, it's because Ford himself was suffering from a terrible case of dysentery, thanks to filming in the scorching heat of Tunisia, and needed to hit the toilet pretty badly. While Indy was originally slated for a whip-cracking choreographed brawl, Ford's decision to cut the scene short has led to one of the most iconic comedic moments of the Indiana Jones franchise.
At age 20, Ford slammed his Volvo 544 into a telephone pole in North Hollywood, effectively slicing his chin open. This particular scar has served as a conversation piece in both Working Girl and Raiders.
An Absentee Archaeologist
The memorable cart chase scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom that partially inspired the high-octane theme park ride at Disneyland was filmed while Ford was recovering from a back injury - his stunt double filmed almost the entire scene.
