The very nice and talented folk at Weta Digital ( [The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies](movie:512312)) have decided to share a few trade secrets with the world. In a new video that shows how they achieved Bombur's bouncing barrel, the team at Weta demonstrate some serious talents.
Weta Digital presents a peek inside the world of the animation team as they work out how to solve one of the most complicated shots in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. As part of an epic seven-minute action sequence, Bombur’s bouncing barrel shot required an elaborate approach.

The Hobbit certainly seemed to use a lot more CGI than its Lord of the Rings predecessor - especially when it came to showing individual orcs and goblins. I suppose on one hand this allows for more kinetic action scenes, but one the other the film might lose some of its magic. What do you prefer?
