In the announcement of DC's lineup of films in the next few years it was revealed that in Christmas of 2017 there will be a team up film with the Fastest Man Alive and the Emerald Crusader: Flash and Green Lantern. Sandman and Shazam both definitely have my interest but this is the one that interests me the most for a few reasons such as the chemistry between GL and Flash could make for a sort of buddy cop-esque movie, interested to see what actors they will choose, and which characters will these be.
We were given the first attempt of Green Lantern back in 2011, while I didn't hate the movie like most people did I recognized that it wasn't perfect. Ryan Reynolds did an okay job as Hal Jordan much to my surprise but I am certain he won't be returning for Justice League and this movie so this leaves us with the question: who could play Hal Jordan in this new DC Universe?
First let's start off with the popular favorite:
From the moment there was the smallest rumors of a Green Lantern movie, most fans looked to Fillion to take on the role. Do I think he could do it? Yes and no. If Green Lantern had come out five to ten years ago, he would have owned the role like Kevin Conroy owned Batman. He has the look, the attitude, the charisma, and the acting chops. But could he do it today? Not sure on this one. If you are doing a Hal Jordan in his prime then I don't think Fillion could do it BUT...if this Hal Jordan is an older experienced Hal like Batman is in the new universe, then I can definitely see it. Maybe have Hal retired because he had to kill Carol Ferris AKA Star Sapphire and so Superman and Batman have to bring him back to fight whatever foe that is coming in Justice League.
After seeing Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit and the two Star Trek films, I knew that this guy has a big career ahead of him. He's got charisma, he's good with action, and he's also got acting chops. If you wanted to do the Green Lantern who's in his prime then I think this is the guy you should get.
Do I really need to explain this one? David Tennant is a BRILLIANT actor who's done Doctor Who so sci-fi will be nothing new to him, you could cast him as either the prime Gl or the experienced GL.
Now this next one might make readers do a double take but bear with me here...
Emily Blunt AS Donna Parker
Please keep your pitchforks and torches away until I finish my explanation. Emily Blunt is a great actress, even in the Wolfman she performed greatly and since she is rumored to be involved in Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice, that gives me reason to cast her as somebody. Now some of you are probably asking, "Why her as Green Lantern? Why not Catwoman or Zatanna?" While Zatanna would be awesome for her and I would definitely approve of that...I do have to take a look at the roster so far.
- Wonder Woman
- Possible Aquaman
- Possible Martian Manhunter
Kind of a lack of superheroines when there deserves to be more. So I thought of a remedy: Donna Parker. A mother of three who took care of her kids through many years of war, this caught the attention of the Guardians. She was given a ring to help lead Earth away from nuclear war.
So she has a really interesting backstory that could lead to cool social commentary on nuclear war today, give general audiences a character that not many people remember, and make a new feminist icon for girls to look up to.
Now you may continue with your angry mob.
Some of you might be wondering why I didn't talk about the possibility of Jon Stewart, Guy Gardner, or Kyle Rayner. Well...I couldn't really care less about those Green Lanterns, I think they make cardboard seem colorful and tasty.
Then there is the Flash and this has raised a few questions: Is it Barry Allen? If so, is it Grant Gustin's Flash or a different one for the Cinematic Universe? Is it Wally West all grown up? Is it Jay Gerrick? This one I'll leave the casting to you all since there are too many possibilities. I will say this though, Chris Pine could pull off Barry Allen if he wanted to.
What would the story be? Well this one is pretty simple to figure out.
Villain comes to Central City or attacks Oa, running out of options one hero recruits the other to help the other then end up becoming good friends then stopping the villain in the end. Generic but it works for a comic book feel to it.
