After watching the first trailer for the Luc Besson film Lucy, I couldn’t help but think of the superhero implications. Could this be the female superhero film we’ve all been waiting for? Quite possibly! Here is the original synopsis of the film:

Lucy is set in a world that is run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts, and corrupt cops. Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), a woman living in Taipei, Taiwan, is forced to work as a drug mule for the mob. The drug implanted in her body inadvertently leaks into her system, changing her into a superhuman, due to accessing much more than the normal 10% of her brain capacity. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind, and cannot feel pain and other discomforts.

After reading the synopsis the wheels in my mind began to turn. I wondered whether or not there is a different way to tell this story. I wanted to put a spin on it, and give it the MARVEL comic treatment. What do I mean by that? Think about this….what if the current plot was thrown out and replaced with a Marvel arc story? How would it work? This article is all in good fun, so whether or not you agree, love it or hate it, just try to vibe with where I’m going with it. Thanks to the help of fellow contributor Justin Dash , I was able to come up with this crazy idea. Also, feel free to add to the story if you so choose!

KREE is an Alien race with a vast empire across the universe. They have been known to visit Earth to interact with humans since the dawn of time. SHIELD has been steadily working on the K.R.E.E project. SHEILD scientists have begun studying the powerful and healing effects KREE DNA can have on the human body. In addition, they have been attempting to replicate the KREE DNA in order to pass on all of its extraordinary powers and abilities to the people of Earth. Upon reaching a medical breakthrough, there is an unexpected security breach by the terrorist organization HYDRA.

Various agents including Grant Douglas Ward

were discovered to be a part of the organization. Agent Ward makes off w/ the unfinished formula built off of the KREE DNA.

HYDRA Begins to experiment, test and chemically altered KREE DNA for their own use. Eventually, they come up with a suitable, but unpredictable prototype produced in a different form…a drug if you will....

HYDRA intends to use this to bring back the super soldier program, which will aid them in their quest for world domination.

Fast forward to the year 2099, where we meet Lucy.....

Lucy is a hapless young women living in Taipei as an expatriate. Lucy is a victim of circumstance as she is in the ‘wrong place, wrong time’ at a local party, where she is caught ease dropping by fellow Hydra agents. She is then kidnapped from the club, beaten, and forced to transport the new and improved KREE substance from Taipei, to HYDRA HQ in North America. While in route to America with the substance, Lucy is intercepted by Chinese police, and held for interrogation. Under interrogation, a physical altercation ensues between Lucy and one of the police officers and Lucy is accidentally exposed to the KREE substance.

After exposure, Lucy receives a strange and sudden surge of power. She is able to defeat her captors and escape the clutches of the Police.

Lucy notices she is stronger, faster and smarter, and whatever is happening to her, is happening at an alarmingly fast rate.

Lucy begins HER research on SHEILD,

The K.R.E.E experiments,

and tracks down Dr. Norman, the lead scientist who helmed the experiments at SHIELD years ago. Her newfound powers allow her to hack into Dr. Norman’s private wireless network, for more information about what is happening to her.

Lucy explains the symptoms she’s been having since her exposure to the substance.

Dr. Norman explains that HYDRA has been after him. He is the key to finishing the KREE prototype they have been developing. Due to the shut down of Shield years ago because of the HYDRA infiltration, SHIELD researchers had to combined a list of subjects that have had previous exposure to KREE DNA. Those subjects included Carol Danvers, (who was lead during the time of Mar-vel), and Agent Coulson

The usual end result presents those that are exposed with great powers and abilities. However, because of the altered state of the substance by HYDRA, Dr. Norman is not sure what type of other effects it will have on Lucy.

He warns her that HYDRA will be after her; Shield will be looking for her; and who knows what other entities will be on the hunt. With all that she has learned, will Lucy decide to take up the Mar-vel mantle and kick all sorts of ass?

Or does she decide it is too much to handle, and works with Dr. Norman on a cure?

From the looks of the trailer, this has the makings of a great comic book. Lucy sounds like she fits right in with the Marvel clan. Just think about how the general over-arching origin story of Carol Danvers and Lucy are somewhat similar. Human is exposed to something that gives her access to extraordinary powers and abilities.

Anyway I know I weakly wove two stories together, but to me it works. What do you think? Do you see the Marvel/Lucy similarities? Or am I just crazy? Got a piece of the story to add? Leave it in the comment section!
