Remember when Disney bought Star Wars? And the internet went nuts over how this meant that Leia was (gasp) a Disney Princess now?

Well, if simple ownership of a movie by the studio gives a character that coveted Disney Prince/Princess title, then can we talk for just a moment about Thor? (And can we ignore whether or not it's a title that should be coveted? I love Disney, wholeheartedly and unashamedly, and would give my right hand to be a Disney Princess.)

In my mind, Thor is the ultimate Disney Prince. Let me share with you why...

1. He is actually a prince!

There is always debate over whether certain characters in Disney "count" if they aren't born royal, or even marry into royalty. (Mulan being the most obvious non-princess). Not an issue with Thor. As the Prince of Asgard, he has it baked right into his title. 100% pure prince.

2. He Looks The Part

Just look at him! C'mon, how much more of a Disney hero could you get? The blonde hair, blue eyes, chiseled features... he actually looks like John Smith already, right down to the steel breastplate. Except better. Because he's Thor.

3. The love story.

If you didn't know it was a comic book, you would be forgiven for thinking this story was unadulterated Disney magic. Thor is cast out of his home (usually there's a runaway, but eviction works too), where he meets a girl and falls in love. Their love is beset by obstacles (A psychotic brother may be a little dark, but it worked in the Lion King!), and even when some are vanquished, a parent somewhere doesn't approve. Despite all this, Thor and Jane Foster represent true love, and will wait for each other, or find each other, no matter what. Tweak this a little, and you have every Disney Prince/Princess movie ever made, with the exception of a missing happy ending. (He'll be back, Jane! He will!)

4. The Battles

Most of the princes, at some point, ride off into battle. People often forget with all the pretty dresses and romance, that most of the men in the classic Disney films are warriors, and good ones. From Aladdin making his way back from the ends of the earth (literally), to Prince Phillip facing down a dragon, to Shang-Li commanding an actual army! Thor's prowess in a fight would not stand out amongst these men.

What more do you want? Now that Disney owns the right to this classically handsome warrior prince with a built-in love story, I'm looking for his addition to the official crew any day now...
