Arguably one of the most anticipated movies of 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy might set the unofficial record for the greatest comic book movie year of all time. This year has already had [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973), The Amazing Spider-man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past. But what will we expect from this movie?
Marvel Cinematic Universe expansion!
This movie has so much potential in this, rumors have it that Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man will make a cameo appearance, most likely in the Post-Credits scene, but not only that, but there is potential for an Avengers film involving the [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073), which we all want to see!
If everyone gave one reason why they are excited for this movie, most will say this character! Rocket Racoon has been a fans favorite for years, and now he has been put on the big screen, voiced by Bradley Cooper. A small hair animal firing at enemy's with large plasma guns, how can anyone not love that?!
Box Office Success!
This is the first original Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011, and is probably the riskiest of any of the MCU movies so far. The eclectic band of characters has no cultural cache yet, and there's no clear tie-in with the rest of the universe.
The attention-grabbing first trailer directly addressed this issue by spending an inordinate amount of time introducing each member, including a gun-toting raccoon and a human man who goes by Star Lord (played by Chris Pratt). There's a possibility that Guardians winds up being this Summer's [Pacific Rim](movie:204401)—the online hype outweighing general interest—though we're betting it winds up on par with the original Thor. (Domestic: $180 million, Foreign: $250 million)
