'The Green Mile' is such a beautiful yet sad story about prisoners on Death Row known as the Green Mile within the film. It's also a story about a particular prison guard Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who connects with one of the prisoners called John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), like the drink but spelt differently.
This prisoner John Coffey has a special gift which later helps Paul with his bladder infection leading him to find out about his gift and help from John. Within the film we find out that John is innocent and he had never committed any murder for him to end up on death row. He shares his gift with Paul and Paul see's through John that he was innocent and that he never murdered anyone. As the story continues and John's day gets closer, he does end up being executed by an electric chair which Paul didn't want to happen. Here's a quote from the film below.
On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say? That it was my job? My job?
Now I've just explained briefly some parts of the story within the film but there's more to it and more characters you get to meet including Mr.Jingles a little mouse who has a little role of his own.
The films shot mostly in the prison but there are some outdoor scenes. We have flash backs of before and after scenes for when the story is being told by older Paul Edgecomb which gives us more information about the his journey through the film and the look of the film is very warm.
I highly recommend this film a watch. I preferred watching it alone for the first time as i get emotional with these types of film. But it's a great watch with the family and friends and it's a film which you can watch over and over again.
