Pass the lozenges - Paddington has lost his voice!

Paddington Bear, the anthropomorphized creature from your childhood bookshelf, will no longer be voiced by Colin Firth, the cherished English thesp, in the upcoming movie adaptation of the kids' book series.

Commenting on his amicable departure from Paddington, Firth revealed in a statement that:

After a period of denial we've chosen 'conscious uncoupling.'

That was, of course, a reference to the term used by Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin when they announced their recent divorce. Cheeky!

Firth continued:

It's been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realisation that he simply doesn't have my voice. I've had the joy of seeing most of the film and it's going to be quite wonderful.

Beyond finding a voice actor to replace Firth, work on the animated film is almost complete. If you haven't already seen it, here's the trailer:

Do you think Paddington will find a suitable replacement for Firth?
