Joaquin Phoenix, Benicio del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Martin Short and Jena Malone in a movie together... Impossible, you say? Not if Paul Thomas Anderson is directing.
The three-time Oscar nominee and man behind cinematic masterpieces Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and The Master has been furiously casting actors for his upcoming Thomas Pynchon adaptation, Inherent Vice. It's like PTA got into my head and is checking off a list of my favorite actors to put in this movie...
Next in line is Workaholics star Jillian Bell, who recently revealed that she has a "weird" role in the stoner flick. In her latest interview, the actress who plays a socially inept assistant and well-meaning office manager in Comedy Central show commented that:
I have such a small part in the movie - I loved doing it, I would do anything for Paul Thomas Anderson because he's Paul Thomas Anderson - but they just flew me in just to do a small part as this weird waitress. But I got to do a scene with Benicio del Toro, who is honestly my favorite actor of all time.
After divulging that del Toro himself was also in the scene with her, Bell continued:
He saw me in' Workaholics.' He is a huge 'Workaholics' fan, I guess. I mean, his wife is Maya Rudolph, so of course he loves people who do comedy. But I guess he watches 'Workaholics' and, actually, Anders Holm is in 'Inherent Vice' as well and he’s in 'Workaholics.' So I think [Paul]’s trying to get all of us in there.
You'll remember Bell had a small part in The Master as one of The Cause's early disciples ("Back beyond... back beyond... back beyond..."), so perhaps PTA has found a new regular for his movies moving forward.
Either way, I'm sure the impressive casting so far combined with Pynchon's dynamite story means Anderson can create his usual brand of fireworks.
Will Jillian Bell fit well into PTA's Inherent Vice?
