Deadline has just broken news that Doctor Strange now has a writer and producer: Jon Spaihts, who is working on writing for The Mummy reboot, will write, while Marvel Studios' own Kevin Feige will produce. The report also confirms that Scott Derrickson will indeed be director:

Marvel Studios is negotiating with Jon Spaihts to write the script for Doctor Strange, the franchise-launching film which will be directed by Scott Derrickson. Doctor Strange was hatched by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko during that Marvel Comics heyday of the early 1960s. He’s a neurosurgeon who becomes Sorcerer Supreme, protecting Earth against magical and mystical threats with powers of sorcery, mysticism, and martial arts. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing.

It seems like we can definitely expect to see a Doctor Strange film in early phase 3! Kevin Feige has previously suggested the film to be the second studio film slated for 2016, but now that this project seems to have some of the most progress towards productive pre-production, it seems even more likely that Stephen Strange could be our very next Marvel solo title!

Kevin Feige has suggested that a Doctor Strange movie will be the way Marvel studios introduces magic into the MCU. What titles could result from this? Black Panther's magic lotuses? Only time will tell: I just wish time would tell us a bit faster.
