Good news for fans of fantastical brother-sister witch-fighting duos! Hansel and Gretel are poised to return, and this time they're going to be even more dedicated to witch hunting than ever.
Paramount Pictures have just confirmed that Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is on its way - and set to arrive in 2016. With the original taking $226 million worldwide off a reported $50 million budget this isn't much of a surprise - but it's interesting that the film's weak critical reception hasn't been seen as a limiting factor in future box office returns. The 'Hawkeye' effect is also unlikely to hurt, especially with the film's release set for the year after Avengers: Age of Ultron's.
On the creative front, though, we currently know approximately nothing. It seems highly unlikely that either of the leads will change - so Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton should return, but whether or not director Tommy Wirkola will be back remains up in the air.
[Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2](movie:896035) is provisionally set for release in 2016.
What do you guys think? Excited for the Witch Hunters return?
