(Potential spoilers ahead) So as most of you guys know, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man series is heading towards the Sinister Six. During the credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (or the Shazam app), we got a glimpse of what appears to be our team of villains:
Now if you've seen TASM2, we know that half of these are already obvious (Dr. Octopus, Vulture & Rhino) since their teases in the film, so those I won't talk about. I'm 99% sure on who two more of them are (which I'm about to explain), but one of them really has me thinking.
This one I shouldn't really have to explain, because I'm sure that this is the Green Goblin's glider. The only other possibility that I can think of is the (mechanized) Ultimate Spider-Slayer, since Alistair Smythe (B.J. Novak) had a small appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
But I find this highly unlikely, since Green Goblin is Spidey's greatest foe and was just introduced (in an awesome way if you ask me). He's basically the leader of the team and will certainly have a big part in the next few films. I don't think the Spider Slayer(s) will show up until the later/last installment(s) of the series (Spidey/Venom team-up against Alistair's Spider-Slayer army...?) or at all.
I believe that this is Kraven the Hunter for many reasons. One reason is because Marc Webb himself said that he was very interested in introducing Kraven to the series. Also, this is clearly his logo (noticeably from his jacket) and would most likely be placed on the other end of his notorious spear:
The only reason why I elaborate on this is because some people think that Curt Connors/Lizard will return. I highly doubt this because at the end of the first film, Dr. Connors has a change of heart against Peter, and later (in prison) tells Gustav Fiers/The Gentleman that he "should leave him alone." And to add that the Lizard's tease wouldn't be what could only be a keychain for his character, which would be really stupid and have no purpose whatsoever. One last thing that I noticed is that in different lighting of the photo, you can (more clearly) see an indent between the sides of the face (indicating his jacket separation):
This is the one that's a cliffhanger to me, and most likely is to others. The two most likely possibilities of who this can be are Mysterio or Chameleon. We also have the possibility of Shocker due to the facial texture (from his mask). As much as I'd love to finally see Mysterio in live-action, I simply don't believe that this is him. Now this is just my opinion and thought, and I may be totally wrong, but it just doesn't add up to me. The smoke could mean anything/nothing (like the green glow on the tip of Rhino's horn), and even though they're going with the Ultimate series, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't use the fishbowl look like everyone knows.
In all honesty, I do like this look and it would be cool to see, but there is no real similarities to this version (or the other) and the teased picture. I see a big resemblance with Electro, and I feel like some viewers (mostly younger ones) would get confused (especially if he returns). I've also noticed that in the picture, there is little to no nose; like a mask is over it (Shocker's mask or Chameleon's mask-like face), not to mention the obvious eye-hole. Mysterio could have a mask under his helmet, but that's very rare, even in the comics.
All three of these villains (Mysterio, Chameleon & Shocker) could work in completing the Sinister Six. Mysterio could definitely work since he's nearly always been a member in the comics, but I feel that his help would take Spidey down too easily and would be hard to introduce as a character. Shocker would be easy to include, but I feel like he's too similar to Electro, with or without his reappearance. My guess/vote goes to:
The Chameleon! I think that he would be perfect for interfering with Peter Parker's life by disguising himself as different people that are/were in his life (most likely Gwen since the cast and crew have hinted at her "return"), and he'd be easy to introduce and develop as Kraven's half-brother. I can already hear Spider-Man wisecracking during a fight saying something about the team all being animals. Now I may be completely wrong about my choices, and only time will tell. But I'm super excited for this movie, I loved the first two The Amazing Spider-Man films (check out my TASM2 review here) and I can't wait to see what Marc Webb does next! Let me know what you guys have/want to say in the comments below, thanks for reading!
